Per Wikipedia, Hurry Up Tomorrow (album) was recorded after the film. Therefore songs/general theme were all directly inspired by it. Therefore it works similarly as a Soundtrack despite being released a few months earlier. It was created as a response to the movie.

Also movies have revitalized an artist’s discography and made their old music pop off plenty of times.

Straight Outta Compton, Bohemian Rhapsody, etc are other examples that now come to mind.

If your mans sells out stadiums in his sleep why you having a hard time believing the public would flock to a movie by him and then have a newfound adoration for his current album that is directly tied to it?

Straight Outta Compton and Bohemian Rhapsody are both biopics. Hurry Up Tomorrow is a psychological horror film. Biopics do big numbers, psych horror films generally don’t.

Not being released or marketed as a Soundtrack only helped it more initially. It was his first new studio album in years — studio albums move more FIRST week than Soundtracks. And those that haven’t been largely engaged (many judging by its current charting) will see the film and then have a newfound interest.

And it’s hilarious you came at Drake stans throwing out phrases like “R&B collab album” to excuse numbers and are now shouting “psycho horror film!” to excuse numbers. Especially when Sinners (a psychological horror film) is the most talked about film in 2025

PSYCHOLOGICAL horror and broad horror are not the same thing. Even still, Sinners is really only called horror because there are vampires. It is mostly a musical drama action flick with small elements of horror throughout.

Even if I want to oblige you and play dumb, Sinners being a huge box office success is still not common for horror films. They are traditionally lower budget, but they end up making a substantial amount of money relative to their low budgets.

The highest grossing horror film of all time grossed $700 million dollars, and it’s a franchise film. The highest grossing original horror film of all time is The Sixth Sense, which grossed $672 million.

A big part of Sinners’s success is that it was written and directed by Ryan Coogler, someone who has been EXTREMELY successful in Hollywood and has a billion dollar film under his belt as well as a Best Picture nomination. The Weeknd in the film & TV world is coming off of an HBO show which everyone clowned and many people regard as one of the worst shows of the decade. He is facing an uphill battle with this first foray into film.

Comparing Sinners to Hurry Up Tomorrow is genuinely one of the craziest things I’ve ever heard on here.

And I definitely wouldn’t list Sinners as a broad generic horror movie It had a large depth of underlying meaning, tackled real world issues, and had an important storyline.

It was a horror film with a message… therefore being akin to a psychological horror film isn’t really an insane thought.

But nonetheless, you’re scrambling to change the subject.

Hurry Up Tomorrow movie should be a notable success and the album that it inspired should have a huge boost to #1.
