We not gonna revise history lmao

We gotta remember that, before streaming took over in 2016, hip-hop wasn’t really represented well on the Hot 100.

For a diss song with no music video to make it all the way to #21 back in 2015, that was huge. That song was definitely a cultural moment, and that’s exactly why Kendrick referenced it on euphoria, because he was hinting at his own Back to Back with Not Like Us.

If the Meek beef happened during the streaming era, Back to Back 100% debuts at #1

Na I disagree, that was a hip hop beef. S*** didn't transcend rap. Back to back was solid but the world wasn't as involved.

It was a cultural moment but so was control and they remained in silos.

Also saying hip hop wasn't as represented on the charts is untrue. The week B2B debuted, top 10 had 2 Fetty Wap songs, Wiz, Silento plus Weeknd. S*** was more represented than now.

i feel like the twitter fingers line is one of the most quoted bars of the last 10 years i wouldn’t say it’s clearly the worst

Drake's impact on the lexicon is actually impressive af. Not that he's the one to actually invent slang but almost everybody starts using it after he does on a song

Was thinking about this while listening to Worst Behavior the other day. "Broski" seemed a lot more common after God's Plan

Back to Back was a huge moment, y’all are definitely revising history here.

Fetty Wap, See You Again, and Silento?

Hip-hop was not represented well on the Hot 100 pre-streaming unless it was EXTREMELY pop-leaning or radio friendly. Also, The Weeknd is not a rapper.

In the Top 50 of the Year-End for 2015, there are a grand total of 8 rap songs, and most of them barely even qualify as rap:

    • See You Again
    • Trap Queen
    • Watch Me
    • 679
    • My Way
    • I Don’t F*** With You
    • Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)
    • Nasty Freestyle

The only real rap songs on here are IDFWU, Flex, and Nasty.

A song like Back to Back hitting #21 in 2015 was extremely impressive

Agreed because it had discussion. Forget the charts and nostalgia though. It's not even in his top 60 most streamed songs. It was a solid hit but people making it out to this mega hit aint it.

The question was whether it was a bigger moment than euphoria. It 100% was. If euphoria debuted at #3 in the streaming era, Back to Back would’ve 100% debuted straight at #1

I think it's closer than people think. Maybe 10 but not 1. The world wasn't as invested in a meek-drake beef as kendrick-drake. Also, Euphoria only debuted #3 because of a late week release, it would have been easily #1.
One argument for Back2Back is that it had time to breathe. With Euphoria other songs and eventually NLU didn't let it breathe and NLU became the a generational song eventually.

Back to Back released on a Tuesday and still debuted at #21. If it had a full week, it would’ve debuted within the Top 10 easily.

That’s extremely impressive for a bar heavy rap song in 2015
