"do youtube ads count towards views"

Yes, YouTube ads, specifically TrueView in-stream ads, do count towards views, but only under certain conditions: watching a complete ad that's 11-30 seconds long, watching at least 30 seconds of an ad longer than 30 seconds, or interacting with the ad.
    Here's a more detailed explanation:
    TrueView in-stream ads:
These are the ads that play before, during, or after a video, and are skippable after 5 seconds.
    How views are counted:
Complete ad (11-30 seconds): If someone watches the entire ad, it counts as a view.
Ad longer than 30 seconds: If someone watches at least 30 seconds of an ad longer than 30 seconds, it counts as a view.
Interaction: If someone clicks on the ad (e.g., to visit a website), it also counts as a view.

That’s only if the ad is LONGER than 30 seconds. Can you read?

Also, there are plenty of ads that are unskippable

The tweet with the video shows the ad was literally over 90 seconds

0.01% of ad views are counted as a view on the video, then those are then further filtered out and don’t even count as streams towards the chart.

    Hope that helps.

Then why do it? Obviously it’s about boosting the numbers of the song.

This is just a lot of words for “yes they count towards the music videos view count”

No idea why you’re bringing up billboard charts. Nobody said anything about those.

Like I said man, it’s okay to have been wrong. You gon be aight

It’s a standard ad? Like a commercial or website ad. Obviously the goal is to get them to then consume it on their own time. Every major label artist’s music is advertised..

Implying the ad is inflating the song directly is misleading though when it’s skippable.

Only counts as a YouTube view if you actually sit there and watch 30+ seconds willingly which at that point is 0 difference from choosing to watch a video YouTube placed in your “up next” list.

However even then that YouTube view doesn’t even count for charts

You don’t know when it’s available to skip, it could very well be past the 30 second mark
