I know people like Jay and 50 started using album sales as a bragging tactic, but I feel during the 2010s, first week sales were not a major topic of conversation within the rap community.
I was in discussions and threads about albums like Views, DAMN., 2014 4YEO, Rodeo, DS2, etc. and I never remember sales being as much of a talking point as they are right now within rap fandom
It's been brewing since pre-streaming. Nas was feeling the pressure to sell records after Ready to Die's immense success. The difference is, there was a balance somehow
