So what are the knocks we’re going for this time? Too many variants, too many bundles? What’s the play to downplay 350K?
Nope. Read it again.
An I see they added “cover”. I guess ppl thought carti was on the bonus songs? What even were the bonus songs?

Haven’t seen 1 person downplay those numbers yet unless I missed it lol
It was dragged out but I don’t think it was terrible. The way they pushed out the physicals for the album was smart
Just weird, inconsistent single choices that didn't really tell you much about the album. And one of them didn't even make the cut lol

2 solo The Weeknd songs. Don't know their titles.

The singles were the messiest part of the rollout for sure. I wish he would’ve pushed cry for me or niagara falls as singles beforehand

Hope they end up on streaming eventually

I haven’t seen anyone downplay it, but Divine is proposing the idea that if it doesn’t cross 400K, it’s an underperformance

Open Hearts
Timeless
Cry For Me
This would've been the perfect 3 singles honestly

People LOVE Open Hearts. That is a potential organic hit if I've ever seen one.

Here’s my thing though. I feel like you gotta save 2 of those for the album.
Would you rather have heard Cry For Me and Open Hearts for the first time during the album or would you rather have heard São Paulo for the first time during the album?

He should've cut São Paulo tbh

After:

Glad he indicated that it's only a collab cover. A little late tho.
He should've cut São Paulo tbh
Whattttt I feel like it sounds even crazier within the album
You had to tag your boy because nobody else gave a f***
You went pages arguing with him, so i thought i'd let him know you were wrong.
Cry more.

Would have rather heard Sao Paulo for the first time on the album since it sounds better with album context imo

I'm happy for you but it still feels out of place for me
only song I'm not into it
Maybe in the future
basically doing as I expected tbh, it would have been very very weird for him to do under 300k with 5 months of preorders with all the different versions
Probably would have done 200k-250k if he only had preorders up for a week or 2. I wonder if this'll cause more artists to go back to this oldschool method of months & months of preorders

I wasn’t wrong about anything. The bonus songs were never marketed to be featuring Carti. That’s something Carti fans assumed because of the cover collaboration.
Are Pharrell fans assuming the third bonus track features Pharrell because he did the new exclusive digital cover? No.
Can't wait for $$$ to do 200k next week & everyone to start the weeknd is bigger than drake convs again

I mean artists are already doing that. Taylor did it with TTPD, Beyonce with Cowboy Carter, on a smaller scale Tate McRae with her new album…
Mainstream pop artists still do long rollouts and months of pre-orders, it’s really just rappers that do super short rollouts nowadays

Even if Drake’s next solo album does under 350K first week, Drake is still bigger in North America than Weeknd. His catalog is too deep not to be.
In North America Taylor is 1A and Drake is 1B. Everyone else is below
