Crazy how different U.S. taste can be sometimes compared to the rest of the world

APT. is one of the best-performing songs I’ve ever seen globally, but in the U.S., it’s being out-streamed by a flop and songs that have been out for months

Drake is the standard and who he'll spend the rest of his career playing catch up to

Mind you, they all called the commercial performance of For All the Dogs a flop but now that's the album they're comparing GNX to to prove it's a rousing success

It’s a kpop song. We’re really resistant to that market

All they've done since May is scream "hey, look! Kendrick just reached numbers Drake reached 8 years ago! He's the #1 guy in the game now! See?! See?!"

SZA stimulus in full effect. luther is now the highest-charting song off GNX on Spotify Global/US.

    💭

It seems to me that Spotify got a little too carried away with the autoplay feature in recent years. It has always existed (it used to be called Radio), but they’ve basically made it the main focus of the app, almost like it’s Pandora.

Are you comparing Taylor Swift to The Weeknd?

    Yes I am.

Taylor never streamed well, until only 2 years ago.

If she can do it, so can the weeknd.

the dumbest s*** the global charts have done to number discussion is gaslight people into thinking they should care about songs that are huge in continents like asia, where the market is completely different to anything they know

we had almost no access to asia numbers until only a few years ago, so now it's muddying number talk

    Guys...new copium just dropped

Where was this SZA stimulus when Drake dropped Rich Baby Daddy? Why did RBD flop?

Dumbass so caught up in her own delusion she can’t even see her contradictions.

Lol you don’t understand the cultural intricacies of America.

Taylor is a blonde and white just like Sabrina. They on different playing fields.

Even Weeknd would sell half if he was looking like Tyrese.

what’s the point in trying to front on the numbers of one of the most obviously dominant rap albums in years? ur just gonna make urself look silly

talk about the music being mid or something. otherwise ur fighting a losing battle

Why didn't that help her until 2022 then? She had like 4-5 albums that did "low" streaming numbers until then

Did americans think she was black until 2022?

taylor was incredibly slow to embrace streaming, i think lover was her first album to ever debut on streaming services and that came out in 2019.

she went on a crazy marketing campaign and embracing streaming unlike ever seen before at her level

    public relationships etc

Dont get me wrong, she the biggest but it literally took someone like MJ and Beyonce to be all time great performers to win the audience at that level.

And even both benefited from being lightskin.

yea exactly, that's my whole point, that type of stuff is so crazy important.

I would bet so much that if The Weeknd started dating Kim or someone similar, his fw numbers would blow up

It’s strange how Lover, Folklore, and Evermore all had underwhelming first-week streaming numbers, with Evermore in particular not being well received

Then she turns around and drops Midnights, casually pulling in 500 million streams in its first week?

I was so convinced she was cooked, but now she’s shattering every streaming record at an unbelievable pace

This kind of comeback is absolutely insane
