Y’all can say “no album with (insert excuse) has ever done more than (insert cope) number of streams” but this Kendrick album was supposed to be record breaker. It was supposed to be the crowning moment.

But in reality all it’s proving is that he’s still right where he was before in terms of popularity. At most you could say that he’s neck and neck with Drake, but not elevated above him. And if you wanted to be less generous you could also make the argument that he’s still solidly in third place behind Drake and Travis.

drake did 250k with dark lane demo tapes which was a 12 track surprise album with like half the songs already leaked no bundles i guess that’s the closest thing you can compare it to if you wanna go tit for tat with sales

The thing is Kendrick fans have never cared much about critical acclaim. They know that doesn't make you the #1 guy and so they've always wanted Drake's commercial success for Kendrick and believed that after this summer, Kendrick finally had that in the bag.

you gotta be trolling, no way you can be this delusional. Kendrick fans never cared about critical reception? Not saying it's good or bad but Kendrick fans in general have cared about that s*** more than sales for his whole career.

We literally got people with metacritic scores as avys here. All the decade best lists get so much hype from his fans.

And #1 in rap does require critical/cultural acclaim. There is a reason guys like Rakim/Nas are still near the top of the list while not even being top 20-30 most successful rappers. Commercial success is one of the factors, there is more to it. Maybe not to casuals who dont love the genre and are just spectators.
