it also helps there aren't any huge hits out rn (huge hits that are peaking)

This album benefits from weak charts while NLU was hurt by all time strong charts. If NLU came out pretty much 90% of the other times it would be #1 probably for 10 weeks.

    Timing matters.

    What was around during NLU

    The Sabrina Run
    Good Luck, Babe!
    A Bar Song
    I Had Some Help
    Birds of a Feather
    Die With A Smile

All were killing the charts from April to September of this year.

Not Like Us remaining as stable as it did surrounded by all of these songs is a remarkable feat

I remember at the time top 3-4 songs were getting 600 points which is super high. I think first time in history.

Pretty good for an album without a promo run (visual interviews, singles, release date announcement & whatever) and a suprise drop late into Friday tbh

Anyone genuinely expecting this to do 500K+ off streaming alone was delusional. No current rapper is hitting that in 2024/2025 without pure sales

this is hyped by men and mostly men. That’s probably the difference

Edit: Let me chill until the actual numbers are in tho

tbh you're actually right I think. there's a max # of streams you can reach with just a male audience, you need a female audience to go past that. Kendrick doesn't have that female audience. Drake etc does

Fader also knew this was 12 tracks and thought it was gonna do 400k just from streaming lol

DAMN did 340m with 14 tracks almost 8 years ago
Fader + many Kendrick d***riders have said streaming has grown a LOT since then

yet GMX is likely gonna do basically the same amount of streams even with Kendrick coming off apparently one of the biggest rap songs of all time + winning one of the biggest beefs + superbowl

    You're being too loud.

Same ones who swore that whatever album he dropped after the beef would do massive numbers because he had all the momentum and all the eyes on him after the beef are the same ones coming up with every excuse in the book as to why the album might not outstream Mr. Morale afterall

I think it just furthers my point about how all these rappers + streaming as a platform basically peaked around 2017 popularity wise and there hasn't been growth for the rappers or "streaming" since. at least in the US

    same for The Weeknd

Streaming in the US peaked in 2018 but yeah, now more than ever, it's definitely not as easy amassing streams as a rapper as it was from 2017-2019. Country has a chunk of the streaming pie now, same with pop and so as a rapper, to amass streams, people really have to tune in to your album and keep showing up to listen to it weeks after it drops for those numbers to be sustained.
