The underground and alot of rap is cooked cuz rap refuses to let the cool factor go. Most ppl are over it now. Its why Chapel Roan is doing so much, its why tyler has 14-16 year olds at his shows rapping She like it came out in 2023. The people require newness and boldness. Alot of rap is stuck in the late 2010s and is afraid to really evolve
And this isnt carti or underground hate cuz i love both. WLR was what i was talking about but the ppl who copied didnt add to it. Kinda took away from the brashness of the project and sanitized it.
I also think thats why the rap girls are on top rn, they arent afraid to be theatric

People say this but the last new rap girl to clear 100K was Meg in 2020

Yea but outside of the legends who is being in the mainstream for rap? I dont see yeat, carson etc at any award shows or anything. They also seem to sell around the same amount yet arent household names like Meg or Doja or even ice spice ( my aunt whose off the grid knows who ice spice is ) which tells me 2 things
1. People arent buying hip hop fr no more unfortunately
2. Alot of the male peers have these white teen fans who live vicariously thru them and discard them once they hit 18

Yeah the newer males really aren’t doing much better. Mainstream rap overall is in a terrible place right now.
And I mean like the newer generation, there are still older mainstream legends that are very relevant and still doing great

But also the more i think about it, the more it could be a larger issue. Cuz i remember at one point everyone knew hit rap songs. Like uncles/aunties, grannys etc could recite a popular rap song. I feel like the grannys wouldnt know Money Longer, or Broccoli or anything from say maybe 2016 and up despite those being big hits and the ppl who made them being stars

Before Not Like Us, I honestly can’t even name you the last rap song that really crossed over and transcended generations

Yea. I was tryna think of one. Maybe and a strong MAYBE for Lifestyle by Thug.
Why you think cardi scared 2 drop mane
idk if it’s cos mfs have extremely high expectations b cos of the numbers the “big 3” used 2 produce n are using that 2 scale the current scene, or it’s b cos nih see the amount of luv that artists like Ken Carson n Yeat receive on da internet, but dese YNs selling exactly wot their albums are supposed 2 @NotHulkHogan

Different era u ain’t gotta b known by da whole world or have one known song 2 b “popping”
Having ur own lil niche cult will take u further as an artist long term nowadays mane

Lone sold less than himself this year
@NotHulkHogan also not saying it wouldn’t happen cos it could but artists not being @ award shows is something we should want right? One day it’s fuk their validation, the next thing uk mfs complaining about how younger acts aren’t seeking attention from da Grammys. Which leads 2 discussions on how these underground acts should fine tune their music for it 2 b accepted @ these shows. lol fuk det da fans luv all the validation needed, ah solid cult base will take em 2 da moon.

Lone put out his worst album n still cleared the rap princess mane

Gods Plan?
Being “mainstream” nowadays is useless af if you ain’t moving no records I’m sure there wos ah point in time you could argue det “Big Purr” Coi Leray wos bigger than yeat “cos een my aunties n grandma know her song”
S*** 1.5 years after Die Lit I had nih 5-10 years older than me laugh @ me for saying Carti is n will b the biggest thing upcoming in rap, them fools told me that Playboi Carti aint really doing anything cos he ain’t have no records in da club n magnolia wos ah forgettable hit, and went on about how Cardi b n women will b influencing hip hop for da next few years especially cos her Grammy win. Fast forward 2 today n Cartis influence is undeniable atp, bro literally affects the sound of hip hop with each n every album he has dropped (n very few artists can claim ah feat as crazy as this lol).
