Well, there are different levels of hits. They weren't smash hits or chart hits but they were hits nonetheless. They all performed well on radio formats, they stay in rotation in clubs and they're well-known Sexyy Red songs, especially within her fanbase and the rap world.

Obviously, you're not gonna compare someone like Sexyy Red to someone like Taylor Swift who you fully expect to go #1 or at least reach the top 10 with her singles.

Same goes for GloRilla. Her songs may not peak in the top 10/top 20 but they do damage on urban/rhythmic radio formats and they're well-known enough within rap circles.

Pound Town, SkeeYee, Get It Sexy, Rich Baby Daddy and U My Everything are all hits for Sexyy Red. She can perform those songs at any rap show and fans would scream back the words.

That's fair I guess, I don't really see hits that way because if theyre the standards then there's surely over 100 hits every year, that feels... wrong to me

but still my original point was that if you're Drake & you want a hit, calling on her to be a focal point of the song is borderline insane, there was probably 100 artists bigger than her at that point in time

It's all relative. For instance, regarding movies and their box office performances. A movie with a $200M production budget that ends up making $400M is a flop because when the cost of marketing and other logistics gets added, the production studios will come away with a loss.

Meanwhile, a movie with a $5M production budget making $25M in the box office will come away with a profit, all things considered.

Charts are a good indicator for what a hit is but they're not the be-all and end-all. For instance, U My Everything might not be seen as a chart hit but I was outside this summer and there's no club, bar or party I went to that didn't play that song. I'm sure strip clubs played the song till death as well. It also did well on urban/rhythmic radio formats and is another recognisable song by Sexyy Red to her fanbase and the rap world. Is it a smash hit? No. But it resonated with its intended audience and that's always a win.

Drake has dozens of songs that didn't peak high or even chart that are undeniable hits. Versace Remix never charted. My Way Remix never charted. We Made It Remix never charted. If Drake goes to any rap show and plays those songs, fans will scream the words back to him because they're all known Drake remixes. There's more than one way to look at things is what I'm saying, basically.
