That's why the comparisons with MJ are even worse dawg singles had no power in the 70s, 80s and 90s
MJ literally had one of the biggest single for years and that s*** never went Diamond
The 40-year-old MJ song that Drake referenced on FPS is the definition of iconic and it never went Diamond
Whole system is broken with streaming
Because Stronger is the biggest song on Graduation, which further emphasizes how hard it was to go Diamond pre-streaming
But you said the singles were bigger than anything off Views, doesn't that mean they should at least have moved 9M units or something close to it? No other song is anywhere close to that, so again, you're saying a whole lot of rubbish based on your feelings.
Drake gonna have 50 Diamond singles when it's all said and done and y'all are just gonna have to cry about it and scream about how it's unfair because it's the streaming era :jordanlaff3:

You’re judging songs that released in 2007, nine years before streaming, with songs that released during the height of streaming.
What you’re essentially saying is that Too Good is bigger than Beat It by Michael Jackson since Beat It never went Diamond.

Even random album cuts are going gold/platinum nowadays
I mean it's good for the artists tho but it's obviously very broken
I Am A God for example went gold

Yeah it’s amazing for the artists for sure, but it makes these stans unbearable because they don’t understand the context behind the certifications

Exactly, they don't get that every super big artist will have like 30+ diamond singles in the next 20 years because of streaming.
They also forget that streaming is still getting bigger with each year lol the peak is still far ahead if we're talking about the streaming era
I do think that these rules will be updated by the end of the decade. They’ve been giving out Diamond plaques like candy for the past 5-6 years, it’s starting to get a little ridiculous. Feels like once every three months I’m seeing a new song went Diamond

I never said it was bigger. You're the one saying that. All I said was that it was a hit in its own right and you can't fault it just because it dropped in a different time. We can't change when MJ or Kanye started their careers and how the industry was then. No one is saying they didn't have hits and yes, it sucks that they didn't have streaming back then and couldn't chart entire songs off their albums but they also sold more albums back then than any artists in this era have. Getting Diamond albums 20/30 years ago was a lot easier to do than it is now so every era has its pros and cons.
MJ still averages over 1M units every year BECAUSE of streaming, so he also benefits from it. So do the Beatles. The biggest stars from back then still have their discographies doing numbers even now and that's only because of how streaming is set up so using that same system to fault artists from this era makes no sense.
This is why MJ fans crying over Drake tying his record was stupid. Drake getting 13 #1 hits doesn't take anything away from MJ's 13 #1 hits. Crying about which hits were bigger or not is also a stupid argument because there are lots of iconic, massive MJ songs that never peaked at #1. Same for Drake.
Just give people their credit for their success and keep it pushing. Comparing and contrasting across eras will always lead to you talking down on one person to uplift the other and no one needs that. And with that, I'm done with this back and forth.
Will slime you out be played 50 years later like Thriller? 🤣🤣🤣
they know it won’t, but ya know
narratives, agendas etc.
Rich Baby Daddy rising. IDGAF/FPS spending yet another week in the top 10

ah, now the actual context surrounding number ones don’t matter, who would’ve thunk it

You were questioning why the other 3 singles on Graduation never when Diamond, while One Dance and Too Good and Hotline Bling all will be.
That’s completely idiotic and ridiculous because of how ridiculously hard it was to go Diamond with a single pre-streaming.
