CLB had no lead single, no release date and no cover until the week of the album. All we knew was that an album was coming.

For All The Dogs was teased for months on tour, cover art was released months in advance, release date was announced weeks in advance, and there was a lead single featuring SZA

But it's the 4th album in 2 years

But it was a house album

    But they were demos

But there was no lead single

    But it was a playlist

What track is Laugh Now Cry Later on CLB? Remind me again?

It was labelled as a lead single by Drake himself and the video had the CLB logo at the end of it

Literally, yet they don’t allow any other artist any type of excuse if their numbers are lower than expected

if anything this just shows how insane the numbers for Scorpion and CLB were. No rapper will ever come close to doing those numbers, jheez

#4 biggest streaming debut in US history but apparently a flop cuz he didnt do bundles on top of it like certain other artists.

I think one Drake convo that isn’t on the table is the convo about the trajectory of his immediate album demand. Much like we were talking about how unfair it is to pit him against artists who sell physicals, it’s unfair to judge him in the arena of S tier immediate album demand. That’s reserved for artists who drop four quadrant smashes, which is something Drake hasn’t cared to do since 2018. The reason CLB’s numbers didn’t suffer from this recent change in Drake’s music is cause it was so hyped and we didn’t know it would be his first studio album since Scorpion that wouldn’t have those type of smashes on it

Drake’s numbers rn aren’t impressive compared to previous years but Drake rn isn’t old Drake. And the masses know it. They want Hotline Bling, One Dance, Gods Plan, Nice For What, In My Feelings. Y’all think this nigga is about to do Views and Scorpion and post-Scorpion hype numbers without that?

Drake’s current numbers are impressive for the artist he is now

It wasn’t but we didn’t know that until the release night…so it helped the album gain hype anyway…

So being surprised at an underperformance is hating now?

I’m hating yet I’ve been playing the album non-stop since it dropped?

He's probably calling you a hater because it's objectively not an underperformance since it's consistent with his previous figures

Saying it underperformed is a blatant attempt at creating a narrative and it's very obvious, whether you were supportive, optimistic beforehand or however you want to phrase it

Show us another artists with multiple album 500 million streams in their first week and we can talk about underperforming

I feel like a lot of niggas on here are purposely obtuse when it comes to Drake

Anyone else can sell less and we got weather forecasts with a million excuses for when they underperform but with Drake all logic gets thrown out the window and everyone completely forgets that billboard is constantly minimizing streaming weight

This album had over 500 million streams in it's first week. There's only 4 other albums who've ever done that, Drake is still at the top it's the rule changes that alter yall perception

outsold doja cat by a factor of 5 but she still gets to keep her superstar status apparently

  • Some of yall are grown men and play obtuse on here. Ask yourselves if this is how you really want to spend your time. Drake sold well again and the world didn't end. You'll be fine lmao

I’m not creating any narrative I’m just reacting to what I’m observing.

402K isn’t a flop, but it’s objectively an underperformance for Drake standards

  • Oct 15, 2023

Only thing I really want from Drake now is to really cease from dropping any new music so everyone can see what a desolate wasteland rap is right now without his numbers to make s*** look better than it actually is.

  • Oct 15, 2023

All I know is y'all better not make up any excuses for Bad Bunny's numbers.

And Drake is one of only 4 to sell over 1 million in rap

    Eminem: 2
    Drake: 1
    Lil Wayne: 1
    50 Cent: 1

Eminem has 3. Encore did 710,000 in 3 days and 1.5 million in its first tracking week.

That means Eminem had a three album run (MMLP, Eminem Show, Encore) where he averaged 1.5 million fw sales (MMLP = 1.7 mil, Eminem Show = 1.3 mil, Encore = 1.5 mil).

Here acting like y'all didn't do the most about DLDT/HNVM's numbers lmao.

I'll agree with you that Drake debuting with 400k+ units with his fourth album in 2 years is an underperformance. That just means everyone else doesn't get to have an excuse for their numbers moving forward. I'm more than fine with that

Drake’s current numbers are impressive for the artist he is now

They are but he’s currently at a crossroads rn in his career

If he keeps hopping on waves to appeal to a younger audience, he’s gonna lose out on the older audience who’s been his core fanbase for years

If he wants to run up his numbers back up to Scorpion levels, he’s gonna have to drop pop hits again

He’s done both but it’s clear he went all the way with the first option with this album

billboard's numbers are out, FATD did 2k less than her loss. this should be the end of the bloated drake album era.

2k difference in pure sales which is minimal.

Wouldn't this partially prove longer album doesn't mean more streams?

Having more tracks on an album have never been directly proportional to having more streams. Examples are Chris Brown albums, majority of other rap albums.
