Even though Drake doesn't resort to any of the chart manipulation tactics most artists do, I still won't say he doesn't care about numbers/being successful. He just doesn't care about pushing his music as hard and is more comfortable leaving it to his fans/the general public to decide what stands out. He's always moved that way and is too set in his ways to change now but because Travis uses beat-switches, synths and hollow vocal changes on all his albums, he's an artistic visionary who doesn't care about scoring hits/numbers

No one’s pulling theories from anywhere, it’s just obvious to hear. K-Pop literally stands out on the album like a sore thumb.

There are maybe less than 10 artists in the world right now who can do whatever they want on an album without any label interference, and Travis is not one of those artists yet

So obvious that you know for a fact that his label forced the song on him? Right. Got it.

Nobody said he didn’t care at all. But that obviously wasn’t the main goal with this album. You’d have to be an idiot to think so

That's a conclusion you're arriving at all on your own. Utopia isn't too far of a departure from what Travis usually does. You're acting like Astroworld was filled with bubblegum pop records or something. Sicko Mode being such a hit was so notable BECAUSE it wasn't structured the way most hits are so Travis has always made albums like this. Doesn't mean he never cared about not being successful/scoring hits. He's just not as good at crafting hits as some other people so he sticks to what he knows in the hopes that something cuts through and every now and then, it does.

Anyone can upload anything on Genius, that s*** doesn’t mean anything.

    Hyaena doesn’t have a hook
Thank God doesn’t really have a hook
Modern Jam doesn’t have a hook
My Eyes sort of has a hook, but it’s so unintelligible and muffled I wouldn’t count it
    God’s Country doesn’t have a hook
    Sirens doesn’t have a hook
    Meltdown doesn’t have a hook
Fe!n technically has a hook, but it’s one word repeated over and over again
    Delresto has a hook
    I Know ? has a hook
    Topia Twins has a hook
Circus Maximus doesn’t have a hook
    Parasail doesn’t have a hook
Skitzo sort of has a hook, but the beat switches four more times and it’s never heard after that
Lost Forever doesn’t have a hook
    Looove has a hook
    K-Pop has a hook
    Telekinesis has a hook
And Til Further Notice has a hook

Thats 7/19 songs that have true hooks

    Sicko Mode was an anomaly.

Astroworld is extremely accessible and poppy from start to finish, it’s the main reason why that album was so successful.

No one’s saying Utopia is some avant garde unlistenable experimental album, but it’s easily the least commercially accessible studio album in his discography

    No Bystanders
    Yosemite
    Wake Up
    Can’t Say
    Butterfly Effect
    Etc.

Maybe “poppy” isn’t the best word, but I mean most of that album is extremely accessible to the average rap listener, that’s why it was so huge

Utopia has at least as many extremely accessible tracks as this. The album has Drake, Carti, Beyonce, 21 Savage, Swae Lee/Weeknd, Thug, Bad Bunny/Weeknd, Future/SZA, and 21 again for God's sake

There are enough songs on Utopia that are accessible to anyone who has listened to the previous 3 Travis albums so the songs not sticking isn't because it's not accessible. The general public just isn't f***ing with it as much. Maybe that changes later, maybe it doesn't but right now, that's what's being reflected in the numbers.
