Yea thats true the prices seem on the higher end for this stuff. But he has younger fans whose parents could be buying the merch.

Do you remember how much astroworld merch was?

Travis fans were taking the mcdonalds posters and reselling cereal. I think some might buy all 5 versions to have the different covers. But I don't think there's as many who would do that as other fanbases.

But with preorders being up for like 3 weeks then if album is really good on first listen he could get a lot more buying merch. Could do astroworld numbers.

I found this. Looks like they had tees for $40 and keychains for $15. Utopia box set tees are $55 and the cheapest option is a hat at $50.

Travis was a cultural phenomenon during the pandemic. He had hypebeasts in a chokehold. Everything he dropped from sneakers to cereal was selling like hotcakes. When Highest In The Room, Franchise, and The Scotts all went #1 it felt like anything he dropped would top the charts. I can see him doing that again with Utopia.

Although I know some people who don’t listen to him anymore because of the tragedy.

Nigga, all you do is complain. Take it somewhere else.

lol I've been praising some projects like Dawn FM and Lana's new album. It's just the state of rap these days.

ngl 165k with that kind of hype is a bit of a disappointment even if it went #1. supposed to be one of the biggest artists in arguably the most popular mainstream genre of music. and he had 3.5 years of anticipation for this one. hopefully this gets uzi to drop more consistently.

What hype? lol he had no hype for this one. No big recent single either.

So for these box sets to count the items need to be available independently, right? As far as I can tell they aren’t right now. Is he using the pre-orders to loophole this? Once everything actually goes on sale it’ll be independent but only the bundles are available for pre-order?

Right now? All I can find on his shop right now is albums and box sets

Fans are going to feel scammed once the hoodies get added to the site and are cheaper than the box set. Or at least they ought to cause it feels pretty scammy. I wouldn’t expect anyone that doesn’t know the billboard rules to expect the merch to be available separately rn

I dont think these are even considered bundles but box sets.

I remember they would hide the non bundles on the website 🤣

I think Billboard’s own language implies they have to be available separately.

“… with the requirement that each individual item must also be sold separately in the same web store.”

The new combinations of merch and albums, dubbed “fan packs,” will allow fans to support their favorite artists on the charts in a way that research suggests that many would like to. However, the packs will be restricted to just two options per album release — a sweatshirt with an LP and a t-shirt with a CD, for example — with the requirement that each individual item must also be sold separately in the same web store. Fan packs will include only merch — not tickets, meet-and-greet opportunities, virtual items or non-tangible benefits — and they must also contain a physical copy of an album: Combinations of digital downloads and merch will not count towards the charts. In addition, fan pack offerings must be approved in advance of their on-sale date by Luminate and Billboard.

"However, box sets still counted (as they had for decades), and these collections could be similar to merchandise/album bundles — except that all the merch items included had to fit inside a “finished goods box/package.”

This s*** confusing as hell. So these are “box sets” where the only requirement is everything you purchase has to fit in a box.

Then there are “fan packs” which are a completely separate thing where items have to be sold separately. Travis doesn’t have any “fan packs”.

What’s the point of even doing “fan packs” then? So the artist saves on box costs?

Yep. it makes sense when you look at Travis website now "custom printed mailer BOX"

beyonce had box sets last year and they counted

"But the superstar also took advantage of the Billboard chart rules by packing her new CD with different T-shirts in small boxes and selling them as $40 limited-edition box sets. Those sets helped Renaissance sell 190,000 copies in its first week — with 72% of that sum from websites, including Beyoncé’s own."

"According to the updated rules: Loose “bundles” of physical or digital albums sold with merchandise, and concert ticket/album sale redemption offers, are no longer permitted; sales of “box sets” still count towards the charts, as long as all the items fit into a “finished goods boxed set/package.”"

i think the bundles are limited to only two types but they would be cheaper to produce

190k is a decent baseline for Travis I guess. I really have no clue how his fanbase compares to the Hive when it comes to buying merch. She doesn’t have a bundle-era album to compare to Astroworld
