when an artist sets the bar tremendously high for themselves the way Drake and Kenny have, they are bound to underperform at some point. but underperforming and flopping are not the same thing. flop means failure and neither project was a failure by any means.

they both flopped. Unsuccessful and failures have ALWAYS been relative to the artist or movie etc. If you dropped an album an sold 10,000 copies that would be a huge but if Drake did that then thats a huge flop.

y’all’s responses are the perfect example of that “MID or CLASSIC” dichotomy that exists in music discussion, especially this site. And you’re applying it to this sales discussion. Either Drake and Kendrick’s albums are the biggest of the year or they are complete failures with no in-between. It’s a terrible way to measure an artist’s success.

Kendrick is doing very well for himself this year. Despite lackluster promotion and lack of “big” singles, MM&TBS is still on the charts, he’s still selling out shows, his performances are dope and repeatedly go viral.

On Drake’s end, Honestly Nevermind - despite its mixed reception - produced multiple Top 10 hits including a #1 (Jimmy Cooks), in addition to the album going #1 itself. It’s one of the highest selling albums of its genre to have been released this year but it’s a FLOP? like what the f*** are y’all even talking about?

I didn’t even really love either album tbh with you and I’ve criticized Drake and Kendrick multiple times on this site in the past. I enjoy their music but neither one of them niggas pay my bills so I don’t mind being objective and calling out their personal and artistic flaws when need be but to say that they are “flops” and not successful is some straight HATER s***

Hell, Ye gets on my nerves more than any other legendary rapper every time he opens his mouth in recent years but I would never call that man a flop or say that he’s washed up. His modern-day relevance can’t be denied. Y’all are just some haters who can’t say they don’t like the music and go. Instead, you wanna make them out to be flops and hasbeens and it’s sad bc at the end of the day, they are still beloved and much richer and more successful than you. it is what it is
