acclaim is subjective, but it's a little different when it's literally being universally heralded by every critic any way you look/read, regardless i don't weigh acclaim heavily because oftentimes they're critiquing the actual artist rather than the music nowadays
and influence is measurable when you see an album come out with a certain sound, and people create their own art off of it, C3 is a great example, people gave that album its flowers on its anniversary, and wayne's image + his experimentation with autotune alongside kanye is very apparent on today's rap game
influence is also subjective though. if someone drops something niche but hugely influential in some circles its gonna be seen as hugely influential to that little pocket but to no one else.
tbh i just see the word ‘classic’ as the same thing as ‘i like this album’, its just an opinion. you’re never going to get absolutely everyone to agree on what is or isnt a classic lol

the majority of these charts now are just old ass songs probably from kids discovering them for the first time

It’s still objectively influential to someone in that case, so influence is not subjective

yeah you’re right subjective is the wrong word. what i meant was different albums are going to be influential to different people so its not something you can use to define a classic.
like people on this forum still debate whether drake has any classics at all to this day. this is despite him having albums with huge sales, longevity, influence etc. none of them can definitively do the job.

if someone comes straight out and say there were influenced by an album, there is nothing subjective about that my dude
you can hear the influence on other people's music too, if you're familiar enough with a sound or in general music in the genre - that's the only place you can stake the subjectivity claim on because it's based on what it sounds like to other people, and even then most people can transparently hear when something sounds like another thing

precisely brave, thank f***ing god
Exactly. So it doesnt have to be good for you personally lmbo
this doesn't work for drake, so idek why you agreed with me my dude
drake released all his classic material in the earlier half of his career, that's borderline consensus it's only stans that try to convince everyone else otherwise

I see what you mean. As for the Drake classics debate, that’s a completely separate convo that’s actually more Drake related than a general convo about questionable classics
The two are easily conflated tho

Cap. Theres still people saying TC isnt a classic
I don’t really care or keep up with sales but it’s hilarious to see Morgan Wallen to be in the title every week. Bruh said the N word and gained super powers
