A album doesn’t have to be good to be a classic is one of the craziest things I’ve heard on KTT
That person must get classic and nostalgic confused
“Nobody”
I don’t personally don’t think it is necessarily but I’ve seen it put up there by a lot of people 🤷

Those tweets aren’t even viral tweets LMAOOO
Brah really typed “the massacre classic” into the search bar on twitter and found a tweet with less than 800 likes, a tweet with 2 likes and a tweet with like 30some likes…. But let a mf pull that with someone he doesn’t like and his whole energy will be different lol.
If it happens now, it’s gotta be labeled a classic. The last rap album that went diamond was released in 2002. Streaming changed the game. Before that, I didn’t we could get a diamond rap album from a 2010’s rapper. We will get a few by 2030. Recovery, views, scorpion and tc will go diamond. Bunny album will go diamond too.
I could see GKMC going Diamond one day too
It’s a hit on Vinyl

if “one day” is the metric then anything can go diamond

Good is an opinion. Nothing is going to be liked by everyone

Nah nobody is going to be listening to Honestly Nevermind a few months from now so it will never go Diamond.
Most albums from past eras don’t sell like GKMC. We may see beloved album like Take Care, GKMC, Astroworld, and 2014 FHD go Diamond later this decade because of streaming.

There’s plenty of classic albums I don’t like, but I can still admit are quality.
If a rap album go diamond it’s a classic 100%
I don’t care if the music bad, you can get 10M sales on a album it’s a classic. If scorpion eventually go diamond, it’s a classic.

Sounds pretentious

Like what you're doing right now. It's all opinions at the end of the day, if you don't think it's a classic that opinion is just as valid as their opinion. It's not the end of the world for you if they like it that much

The majority gotta claim something as classic for it to be considered a classic b. I ain’t make the rules.

If you call them a classic you must like them to some degree

no...? i don't like supreme clientele but i know it's one of the best
earlier hip hop albums + a classic from that era based off of other factors than my personal enjoyment

What objective factors are there that aren’t sales (yeah I know this is a sales thread) I'm curious how you can have a conflicting opinion "I don’t like it but it's a classic"

And this is coming from someone that think The Massacre have a small edge on get rich. The massacre is considered a downgrade from his debut album. He was clowned hard.

acclaim, longevity (as y'all have already covered) and influence (which is the most important thing to me above all else)
there's also undeniable aspects of classic albums that made them indisputably great, like the production, lyricism, if it innovated/changed music, pushed boundaries etc.
Exactly. So it doesnt have to be good for you personally lmbo
Yeash exactly. So basically The Massacre or any album that people love can be a classic. I don't know how people itt can act like it objectively isn't when this is art were talking about here. It's all subjective
the velvet underground & nico for example is an album that fits the bill
i think that album is an absolute snoozefest and is extremely boring and drab, yet it was very innovative, influential as hell - it also sold poorly at first, the value of that project wasn't seen/felt until years later
s*** literally pushed 30k copies in five years

Views and takcare already at 8M and scorpion was around 6.7M a couple mouths ago, will be at 7M going into 2023. Those going diamond by the end of the decade. Also believe more life is close to 6M

Acclaim is just as subjective as a review I don't think that's as important as you might think especially since it's really political behind the scenes (Grammys and MTV awards favoring artists that perform)
Longevity and influence are great indicators for me too honestly. All of Cudi's albums have been in my rotation since they each released and they've influenced my personal life and health so much I don't think I'd be the same man without them. I don't know how objectively you can measure that but I won't deny it but those 2 could apply to any album and artist someone gets attached to and it's still an opinion
