Ok, so Kendrick at the peak of his career had to compete with a Drake side project because Views/Scorpion wasn't a win for him

Yeah, but that's the point. Despite the hype, it's still just a side project. The difference between More Life and IYRTITL/WATTBA/DLDT is that we didn't have months to speculate on their release because Drake never confirmed anything until right before they dropped. If he had announced them months later, you'd be saying the same thing about them that you're saying about More Life right now lol.
Even those are all MUCH different situations than More Life.
More Life literally plays as a bigger, more expansive Views, with 5x the amount of features.
IYRTITL is a bar heavy mixtape with minimal features with no pop crossover appeal (unlike Views, More Life, Scorpion, and CLB)
WATTBA is a collab album.
DLDT is a collection of leaks and looses that didn’t make CLB.
This is why I’m saying More Life (even it’s technically not a studio album) getting treated as a little side project is delusion

More Life did more streams 1st week than DAMN, which is the more important metric, and did it on a shortened tracking week. I'm not biased one way or the other but Drake had the superior performance.

How wasn't it treated as a side project? How many music videos did Drake shoot for it? None. Did Drake tour for it? No. Also, Drake explained exactly what it was going to be before it dropped so fans knew it wasn't another album. They were excited to just be getting new Drake music but they always knew More Life wasn't the start of a new Drake era or anything. It was just a collection of songs he made when he was on tour in the UK and wanted to share with fans.
