And what’s the point of going that hard for a number 1 just to have it do like a -30 the next week or some s*** lol.
because of bragging points. they can say Nicki debuted at #1 even if falls off the map next week
Which is why its a cheat code. Artists that are "smaller" than Drake don't have as big a fan base of his so of course he charts. Back in the days, people had to actually buy the singles for them to chart. Drake is such a big artist, he has everyone's ear and they'll give him a chance with his music. "Smaller" don't get that grace. "Fans"nowadays will listen to albums by Saba or Denzel Curry or whoever that is Drake or Future or Kendrick or Weekend only once. How can they chart? Streaming a cheat code. Not mad, its the game.
Drake having a fanbase that actively supports his music doesn't mean streaming a cheat code. In the physical sales era, the biggest artists also put up the biggest numbers while the smallest artists put up small numbers. All that's happened is that it's now translated into the streaming era.
Streaming, in a lot of ways that physical/pure sales didn't, levels the playing field. The average person today has subscription with at least one audio streaming service. After that, it all boils down to if people care to listen to your music or not.

That’s p lame but it’s Stan twitter so I guess
Stan twitter is such a funny read from time, no matter how bad this thread get, we got nothing on them.
Oh they about to clear that now Lmao
Doesn't seem like a cheat but an actual representation of what people are listening to.
Back then labels had even more power when it comes to physical copies and retailer relations. No way you could pop like that unless they paid for radio and pressed enough copies, so the upper echelon artists where even more protected and release dates were more calculated.
A Drake can get outsteamed and outperformed by a bunch of artists when they get popping and go viral, none of these niggas back then had a shot of outselling the Beatles, Elvis, Madonna etc. because the companies weren't even providing enough retail copies for an upset to happen.
Sure it’s an actual representation of what ppl are listening. That’s facts. But Drake has such a large following, ppl will give him a listen off rip. So many artists don’t have that opportunity and I think it’s because of the type of music Drake makes. It’s so many artist out there that make dope music but would never reach the success Drake has because streaming has ruined ppl’s attention span and Drake got on before streaming with a solid fan base that only grew throughout the years.
Back then, so many artists popped and had platinum records and singles because ppl paid for it. Go back and look at the rap artists that went platinum in the 90s and 00s. Whether it was through radio or some other avenue.
Drake can’t be out streamed. He’s the biggest rap artist. So him breaking billboard records because a loosie or a 3 song EP can shoot him to the top 10 easily. He passes the Beatles because no Beatles fan is streaming nowadays. They aren’t relevant much lately. And their fans have the records already or buying them. Sure no one could outsell Madonna Elvis etc. back then but I’m talking bout rap not other genres.
is radio not a cheat code? people dont even get to pick what they listening to.
I’m just talking bout streaming specifically. I’m not 1000% sure if radio plays contribute to billboard placement. But I agree, radio plays what’s popular and probably what labels pay to have their artists played.

Respectfully, I disagree with your statement about the physical sales era now translating to the streaming era. My argument isn’t Drake specific, I think a lot of artists benefit from streams but in this case because he’s breaking records due to streaming he benefits the most.
In the physical sales era a “small artist”went platinum like Tribe or Xzibit or Mobb Deep, even Chingy has 2 platinum albums, Cypress Hill has 5 platinum albums, GZA has a platinum album, Insane Clown Posse has 2 platinums.
My point is, “smaller” artists were going platinum twice over sometimes and sure the bigger artists were doing bigger numbers but everyone was eating.
Streaming nowadays only rewards a select few with a large following because it takes so much for a stream to chart. If Drake has 10 million die hard fans, they’re streaming his s*** and the casual fans could match that and will add even more. An artist like EARTHGANG could have 1 million fans and they could stream the album but it wouldnt chart because of how streaming works when equating to a sale.
If this was the physical sales era, Drake would be going diamond with albums. EARTHGANG would at least go platinum and that’s the difference in my opinion. Not s***ting on Drake. What an accomplishment but context has to be added at least for me.

radio is like half the formula 💀
You need radio to be stable for weeks

It was easier for albums to go platinum and multiplatinum back then. But now its easier for singles to go platinum and multiplatinum now. Drake would have broken records with or without streaming.
yooo how come Bad Bunny is still projected to sell more than 100k this week? is it becaude it’s considered as a double album, so it doubles the sales?
really asking out of curiosity, no hate, shout out to him 🔥 incredible how an artist can still sell this much in this era
