It didn't do any damage in the US, which is my point. Y'all are calling Bad Bunny the biggest artist in the world now because he's being dominant in the US (the world's biggest music market). If his latest album flopped in the US, y'all wouldn't have any legs to stand on to call him the biggest.

YHLQMDLG streamed well on Spotify and that's it. He pushed 9 singles off the album and none of them did any damage in the US (his debut album had bigger singles). His latest album is his true breakout album. Don't know why y'all are in denial like it's a bad thing lol.

It's the same way Post Malone was doing well in 2015/2016 but really broke out in 2017 when Stoney blew up and then had his first true breakout year/album era with Beerbongs & Bentleys in 2018. Same way Hot Pink did well months after its release but Planet Her is Doja Cat's breakout album era.

Bad Bunny is being dominant in a lot more countries than just US lol

Nah I don’t think she’s being like that. Her definition of a breakthrough just doesn’t make sense imo. It’s like saying J Cole didn’t breakthrough until 2014FHD.

I disagree the entire post is built to center the importance of traditionally American acts

Bad bunny is technically an American act and the hoola hoops ppl going through just shows u what ppl think of Latinos

It has sold well over 2.5 million copies in the US, and it has platinum singles. How is that not a breakthrough?

    You give me a headache

Tml sold 447k and is eligible for 3x platinum and people say TC was his breakout album that pushed him to a superstar . Same with the weekend, his breakout album was beauty behind the madness.

It’s hard to compare different eras where music is consumed differently, but Drake was definitely a superstar before Take Care. That album is just when people realized he was gonna be here for a long time.

I don’t think The Weeknd applies because Beauty Behind The Madness was his first commercially successful project period.

Yeah sometimes there’s hints of xenophobia when Bad Bunny’s accomplishments get brought up.

The cool thing is you don’t have to be his target demographic to enjoy his music.

he might be overall. but this year, this month, this day, rn, bad bunny is the bigger artist in the world. we didnt see CLB or HNVM having the longevity UVST is having rn ww. its smashing on spotify, AM, and even Youtube. its still doing like 40M streams WW on spotify alone, imagine how much its doing WW with all of its platforms. (and no idc about paid or free cuz in the end a stream is a stream)and like some people were saying otherwise, no HVNM isnt a flop (ignoring drake's standards) it has a few top 10s and the number 1 single still doing great in US/Canada etc. and look how i said all of this without putting an artists down or calling them a flop/they are over

Check the charts for UVST vs Honestly Nevermind. Honestly Nevermind outperformed it badly in Europe.
Counting all countries in the world, Drake is bigger even TODAY.

Why should I compare them in USA when Drake is bigger than him over there? When Drake doesn't drop surprise experimental house albums he's doing 613K first week. Something Bad Bunny only can dream of doing.

Drake is bigger than Bad Bunny in USA, Africa, Australia, NZ and Europe. Now do the math.

You’re the one comparing the albums b. Countries aren’t points that you can just give to one artist. The global streams are in Un Verano Sin Ti’s favor. Stop doing mental gymnastics.

I've already given you enough examples of what I'm saying for you to use your common sense to understand it. TML did almost half a million first week. It scored multiple hits and moved millions of units. Yet, people still identify Take Care as Drake's breakthrough album. Go figure.

Drake basically jayz in 2007 now, we gonna see artist come through and do huge numbers and then fell off and drake will remain. So many huge artist have came through the drake era fell off sales wise. Lady Gaga, Katy perry, Bruno mars, Ed, fetty wop, post Malone, Kendrick, (Adele next album might sell under 500k first week), Justin Bieber, bad bunny and Doja (TBD) and many more artist.

Bad bunny can’t be the biggest rapper in the world when he doesn’t have the culture in a choke hold. Drake has the rap game and urban culture in a choke hold. Drake brand is way bigger. No one hip hop is tryna sound or look like bad bunny. Nobody will bring up bad bunny in rap debate in the barbershop either.

Drake album didn’t do anything in a lot of countries either man. Why would a Bad Bunny album do well in Iran or Egypt? He clearly doesn’t need it. Isolating countries doesn’t mean anything when you can just look at the global numbers.

Eminem was bigger than jayz in 99-02 but everyone knew jayz was the king of hip hop and he had the culture on lock. Everyone wearing rocawear and jerseys etc. Then he told everyone to stop wearing jerseys and they did.

You say it didn't do much yet it still destroyed Bad Bunny album all over Europe.
Also, you are comparing Bad Bunny's mainstream sounding album to an experimental house album. Compare it to CLB and you'll see the massive difference.
