The only artists who numbers/sales are inconsequential for are non-mainstream artists. For any mainstream/established artist, numbers tell their own story. If nothing else, they show you how engaged the general public is with regards to consuming your music.

It's very funny when you realize that all this anger towards McDonalds fans on this site is really because people are mad that restaurant has been dominating fast food for 82 years straight with no end in sight and they hate that its fans are always acknowledging that fact. That's it.
