anytime drake stans went at it on this site with other fanbases (theweeknd flop earlier this year for example) kdot stans would post like they're above that messy behavior and are only here for the """quality""" of the music
kdot stans have been acting very entitled to praise for this album and were ready to celebrate if it did well commercially
since that didn't happen they're acting defensive, are straight up lying about how we got here and retreating into the "well kendrick makes better music" narrative
there's nothing wrong with wanting commercial succes for an artist, kdot stans act like they're above that stan s*** and this album cycle proved that y'all are not (which is ok as long as you're not being a toxic weirdo)
Bet I get you. I truly don’t give a f*** about commercial success any of that, nor am I anyones stan. I wasn’t going to do any of the mental gymnastics you describe. This one of my first threads. I just felt compelled to speak up about this.
Fake news. The mixed responses came BEFORE the numbers got out. Stop trying to rewrite history.
I was in the thread the day the album came out saying I liked his previous ones better albeit I said that this current album was fine, but it did flop
Well, let's not bring up old acts.
Drake, Cole, Lil Baby, whoever you name, they are what they are in part right now because of their place at the box office.
Sales absolutely matter. Whether they motivate one's listening experience is another story
I feel you, but there’s a place for everything. Are you a numbers artist or an artists arist. Kendrick is an artists artists, not speaking on the rest
ngl i couldnt finish the first half before i got bored
who’s your favorite artist?

The same guy who was on twitter talking about his own album's numbers for Good Kid is not a numbers artist?
It requires you to be in a specific mood for it and honestly the album isn't for anyone
another hilarious take. Who’s your fav artist?
Like, as interesting as Auntie Diaries is, don't tell me anyone is listening to that song on the daily
hey! my auntie is a man now is a hit!
another hilarious take. Who’s your fav artist?
Lupe, T.I, Zay, Curren$y, and Logic
Real ones don’t look at goofies on twitter reviewing s***. Or numbers.
We just listen to the music
u right jet pack, u right.
"shit, can't wait to be done with work so I can listen to We Cry Together again"
every shift bro

Unbiased as always, good write up
The same guy who was on twitter talking about his own album's numbers for Good Kid is not a numbers artist?
damn fasho forgot about that. What I meant was he’s not a traditional hitmaker like baby or Drake so their numbers vs his aren’t going to make sense. Drake got every kid and white girl singing his s***. Can’t say the same for mr black belt
Lupe, T.I, Zay, Curren$y, and Logic
I understand you now more, thank you.
I agree. I liked the album once it came out but when I found out he was doing less than 300k… it made me love the album even more. Like it validated my own listening experience because I felt like the music taste was good for listening to mysterious music.
definitely pnw
Hell yeah
Nigga said T.I
Welcome back PNW lol
I love the album and been listening non-stop since drop (with 2 skips ngl
) but he flopped fr and the reason it matters is because It’s just going to encourage artists to continue to drop cookie cutter mid that sells with casuals. Him flopping is an L for music.

Real, appreciated he tried to do something different, just didn’t pan out this time

He didn't flop tho
On a serious note, I think one of the reasons why this album disappeared from a lot of people's minds that quickly is because, even though thematically he's doing something wildly different than on past projects, musically he really isn't. In a sense, I look at MM&BS as an upgraded version of Damn., both in terms of instrumentation as song structure. The change from GKMC to TPAB to Damn was huge though, on the contrary.
Think about it, Damn also shifted constantly between pop-rap tracks (LOVE, GOD) to more left-field production (ELEMENT) to pretty straightforward bangers (DNA, HUMBLE), just like this new album. Even the way the long, emotional tracks of that album are structured is pretty much similar to Mother I Sober and Auntie Diaries - a few long verses reminiscing about the past real life stories that eventually culminate into a "surprise" conclusion. Thing is, that surprise hits hard if you don't expect it, on those two tracks you could see it coming. Which doesn't mean that those tracks aren't great, they just leave less of an impact than the ones that came before them.
Only in comparison to himself he flopped
