you aren’t getting rid of someone like James Brown or Miles Davis who were revolutionary and massively influential within their respective genres and literally changed them

you aren’t getting rid of the people that they’ve touched and moved with their art

you aren’t getting rid of any of the damage that has already been done by “scrubbing” their art from existence and it wouldn’t even happen

the most you can do if you genuinely are that concerned about supporting these creatives that are scumbags, is pirating their work and remaining very mum about their music

it’s a personal choice

I know im clearly in the minority of what I think regarding this. Which is fine. But tbh I also don’t really care for the morality of the people who create art. Theres limits to it, but generally I dont. In art history a lot of the best painters I had to study were weirdos like Picasso, murderers like carravagio. This trope of artists being bad people has been around for hundreds or thousands of years. It’s pretty well established their character has minimal impact on the art. If you want the artists you consume to be some extension of youre own morality, then fine do that. You’ll close out out probably the majority of significant art if you do that and if you create yourself, youre robbing yourself of what you can learn artistically.

S*** is so dumb when you realize a lot of this discussion is about people they don't know and probably will never meet. Listening to a problematic artist's music doesn't mean you co-sign their sick ass crimes.

And the s*** is stupid as f*** because it's up to the consumer where the line should be drawn anyway.

Most of this site's userbase was in Thug's RICO thread commenting free him and still bumping his music like he's not implicated in the murders of several people.
