Watched the act 1 yesterday morning. It was great. Though i did expect that it would either be longer, or cover more ground than it did tbh.

I thought i remembered reading somewhere that act 1 went through Kanye's pre-Roc era to at least Late Reg. Guess i misread. But if each act is a similar length, I have no idea how its gonna fit Kanye's whole career and persona into just 3 parts — especially since act 1 doesn't even reach the release of College Dropout.

Im sure the whole series will be great regardless, it just makes me worried that so much stuff might be left out or glossed over. There is so many major events and transformations between CD and 808s. I can't imagine it possible to cover most of them in a 90-120min act. Guess we'll wait and see anyway.

However, it's awesome seeing all this footage that's been unreleased up until now. And so many priceless moments with Kanye and his mom. Excited to see more

Coodie stops filming when Donda passes which was either 2006 or 2007 then picks back up in 2016 so there is a large gap there not going to be shown

Damn, that’s the time period I’d like to see the most. But I also think his grief and how he handled her death should be kept private

I did love seeing the brief clip of him in the Dominican Republic. Telling his team “Yeah let’s go full steam ahead on the president thing”

Didn’t Kanye have his own film crew during these times?

Wish Kanye collabed on this documentary and combined the footage

I was really hoping we’d see Mike Dean when Scarface came into the picture. He’s been such a large part of Kanye’s career he deserves some recognition

Maybe in the next episodes, but ifykyk

    He did

Coodie and Chike have said that this isn’t the definitive Kanye West documentary but rather tells a story about two friends and what it means to be a genius

Well that makes more sense then.

But IIRC, a couple of the write-ups I read from its festival premiere say something about the gap between Coodie's personal footage being obvious because there are large chunks of archived media segments and public appearance stuff that takeover at some point.

So maybe it will use those things to fill in the gaps? If so, that's unfortunate, and a bit ironic to have in a personal, sincere portrait of Kanye, of all people — summarizing major elements of his persona through the media, which has always been sensational and removed from all empathy when it concerns him.

But its also understandable i guess, since the series is primarily from Coodie's perspective and experiences with Kanye, and when their friendship fell out he was suddenly on the outside looking in, through media coverage like everyone else. I'm hoping that those segments end up making the reunion arc of Coodie and Kanye in later years seem that much stronger
