Damn, hoes really mad
You mentioned the only good songs on the album. (& Black Skinhead)
The rest is weak lyrically, at least here it seems most lines actually mean something, whether its a biblical reference or his headspace in the past year.
I think this is better, never been a massive fan of Yeezus.
I love all of Yeezus, outside of one song which I think is a bit mid but won't name lmao
I kinda get why a UK head like you wouldn't be as excited about that album as some people, and I mean that in a good way
But I loved that album a lot. Loved it being ten tracks, New Slaves really gives it a lot of heart for me, love the surprise of Bound, the production on BOTL is love and hate but was refreshing to me, his vocal performance is excellent too. Love On Sight as to me, comes off as a modernday homage to the likes of Public Enemy No 1 and other classic 80s hip hop production, Black Skinhead is an unforgettable song musically at least, I Am A God has an undeniable energy that I love, the outro of I Am A God really shows how he was still willing to be inventive and take everything a step further rather than just settling for essentials (like Lou said in his review), HML love how he manages to reimagine Keef on that track. That was special to me as it would have been easy for him to chase another I Don't Like but instead he does something creative with Keef, lots of superstars would have just used that moment to clout chase. Send It Up is love hate but I think you just gotta love his abrasiveness and the energy he brings, not to mention another chi collaboration.
It's not a classic but it's still one of my favourites OTD. It's not as good as UK albums that do that sound better for me (mainly BITD, but Integrity and Godfather too). But musically it's amazing and I think actually those UK GOATs could learn something from some of his ambition on Yeezus. Imagine if JME or Wiley got a folk artist to give them an outro, or switched to obscure soul or rock samples etc.
I think the only shame of that album is that if he'd held the kind of politicized social commentary he had on New Slaves for an entire album with that directness, it would have been 2013's answer to Public Enemy and another Kanye classic.
