Feb 17, 2022·1 replyIn regards to Jeenyuhs versus Kanye today…it’s easier to have people in a similar industry buy into what you’re doing (even if they don’t like you personally) bc it’s still within a music industry that they understand and work in and can have relevancy in.
His energy is pretty similar then to now. Maybe more emboldened by his success. But still the same. He just outgrew the ecosystem.
It’s a lot harder for those same people to have the same enthusiasm for what you’re doing when you advance into other industries (fashion or architecture etc.) that they don’t feel as comfortable in. Nike and Rocafella are very similar situations. Gatekeepers stifling him. It’s just that no one understood what he was aiming for with Nike and it wasn’t something people in music industry could really offer meaningful contribution to, within music, so it was written off. So then those same character flaws you have become things that are insufferable to people who are left behind. Dug Infinite is an example of someone who’s mad Kanye outgrew Chicago. Kanye would be fine to them as an a****** that stayed within their sphere of influence. Outside of that, they have no reason to put up with it.
