IvoryPersonally the biggest disappointment in these last few projects has been about quality and rushing releases when there was plenty of potential. ye was material that felt super derivative of TLOP but JIK being that 'daring' new direction had a lot of opportunity that just never got fully realized.
JIK had a good sonic foundation built on environments and those textural nature-like sounds but again, rushed it out instead of polishing it like he used to.
Drake has a proven equation that continues to stand the test of time but he serves a different consumer and he's good at making the type of music his fans (myself included) want to hear from him. But again, his audience is completely different.
Very true. JIK could have been a much better departure from his previous projects, but since it was made in a few months after Yandhi was scrapped it is only natural that it couldn't fulfill that...

oh yes and hate listened to TLOP today for vapid fun.
Caroline shaw panda outro, lowlights, the idea of og wolves, and the idea of freestyle 4 are standouts
"if you aint poppin s*** then why you rap for? haaan. plus kimoji just shut down the App Store." is undisputedly the best bar on the album

Just listened to the live stream again, but this time on really good headphones... I’m shook. Like, if they can truly master this s*** right and Ye really hones in on his verses, this s*** is better than MBDTF. It’s like his most experimental/most refined production yet.
Just need more introspective Ye going in.
