I don't agree with some of the criticisms but this nails it for me:

"And, as an act of tribute or worship, it is deeply confused: Black praise music, be it spirituals or gospel music, has always emphasized and reinforced a sense of community, but these songs, and this whole affair, feel like the flimsy work of a lonely layman pulpiteer."

Kanye is out here cursing around every minute but acts like it's forbidden to curse on tracks. During the JIK I really believed him and that he really needed Christianity at this time but that isn't the case more in 2021. He's a hypocrite.

I don't even care about the censoring on the album because it doesn't take that much away BUT it's f***ing pathetic. He even curses by himself on Ok Ok. S*** is just unfocused and rushed.

Kanye is a flawed individual, but he openly shows his flaws. He doesn't claim to be the model christian, more someone who is a believer who has a long way to go. Reminds me a lot of myself.

When I listen to Kanye I see progression of a real human being going through real emotions and thoughts and feelings, he's not claiming to be a model citizen or christian, more of someone who is a constant work in progress, just like we all are. No one is perfect, and what I like about Kanye is he openly admits it in his music

and the lack of communal feeling is a strange criticism from that article considering the feature list and the consistency among them

man if you ever sin you cant make an album thats edited? he curses but obviously isnt ok with it, even if he slips up...

i understand its silly kanye didnt just replace his curses with other words but i get letting features do their thing and not asking them to keep it "clean"

but everybody religious journey is their own. you acting like he was a real christian with JJIK and not with donda is hysterical. who are you to say that? lol him saying

the way he pointed out the inconsistency between that Keem line and a lot of what Kanye says really struck me too. like he sees Christianity as a way to avoid his material problems often when that is honestly quite a selfish way of going about life. But there are also such deep and touching moments on the album when you can tell he’s truly broken and isolated so I’m really conflicted

idk if that was a copypasta or not lol

Nah man, the censoring was definitely a rushed decision since he scrapped LOTP because of it

"black praise music has always emphasized and reinforced community"

    is like saying

"hip hop music has always emphasized _"

who gives a f*** what something historically has done. this is what kanye wanted to make. when has he ever done whats always been done? this is a genre bending piece of work

he scrapped it out of respect for andre, who knows what was going to bbe or what will become of that record

if he decided 30 seconds before turning it in "we not cursing on the album" so be it, doesnt make the theme any less religious or him more hypocritical

we all flawed human beings and hes clearly really religious. nothing to see here

No, according to Andre's statement he wanted that Ye scraps it because he doesn't wanted that his verse is censored.

when you're "religious" person making somewhat religious art, people want to constantly put you in a box. "oh you didnt mention enough bible verses," "you cursed on a religious record," "oh you said something GOD wouldnt like." f*** off. religious people are flawed humans too. s*** is mad annoying.

I agree but do you think it goes overboard when he justifies most of the same s*** he was doing before because now he’s favored redeemed through god? Idk just seems like a way of avoiding responsibility.
