Edit nvm
DONDA is just a little better then Pablo. The highs on it like Off The Grid, Believe What I Say, Moon & Come To Life are his best since Yeezus.
DONDA and Pablo are same tier to me. Ye is a step down from that tier. It’s an ok album that offers a cute glimpse into his mental health after the breakdown but I feel like it had serious potential to be another amazing album that just didn’t happen.
And then JIK is just....ugh. Really disappointing album. And it’s not because of the religious themes obviously when DONDA was still heavily religious and executed it way way way way WAY better.
I agree JIK feels more thematically tied together
KSG I think ties its songs together with its instrumentation, all of its weirdo psychedelic beats
Subject matter varies a lot from song to song
sure, but I get so much value out of Ye lyrics and songwriting that its a given the album will sound good, so what matters most to me is something that touches me lyrically
JIK sounds amazing too
albeit JIK didn’t touch me in the same way ye did especially Ghost Town and Violent Crimes, its still a beautiful expression of where he was and his journey and I connected heavily to it, KSG just didn’t give me that feeling as much, I wasn’t huge on a few of the tracks and they didn’t have anything lyrically to back them up for me

i can understand that sentiment
but there's songs on KSG that for me were extensions of those touching moments on ye, like Reborn, Freeee, Cudi Montage etc
i liked kanye's lines on JIK but i couldn't connect with them as deeply as in other albums, i felt the new direction was kind of shallow and disingenuous
donda in comparison explores those religious themes with more depth and character imo

I don’t think Reborn was as profound as Ye verse on Ghost Town, that verse is to me the most profound moment of Ye’s whole career
Violent Crimes is conceptually Ye strongest song to me with the meaning behind the name and how its connected to that hook, the subject matter, Wow. I love Hov and Nas but their perspective on the subject matter of being fathers to daughters doesn’t weigh up to how that song was packaged and the brutality of it
I loooove Freeee as a song but it defo don’t do much for me on that level, Cudi Montage too is great
if anything I think JIK has a lot more depth than this lol, this strikes me as him being not so far deep in on his faith and making less personal records that are more of a victory lap and celebration, whereas JIK was the expression of where he was as a person and how his faith helped heal him in real time

Interesting.. Got a feeling this would be different if Ye, JIK and KSG were 20+ tracks

I didn’t include KSG because it’s a collab but I love that album as much as Pablo and DONDA.

so we all agree on yahndi being spared
Anyone seriously saying JIK over KSG is sus as hell. Reborn alone is better then the entire JIK album.
Cudi Montage alone is better than JIK
