I’m going to sound pretentious, but I was passing time reading a f***ing ringer article on Donda (first takes). I think pop culture today is just super cynical and also lazy when it comes to religion and art. I am a religious person albeit not Christian. I can see why people have come to think religion is flawed. To each their own. I just feel like it’s become easy to scoff at believing in God and worshipping Him and then writing off the project bc of that. I think there’s waaay more to this album than religion. It’s just lazy to tune it out bc he praises Jesus imho. I also find it interesting that you would think liberalism would have this better understanding of psyche given all the background on the rollout. Instead they view the psyche as a burden for us, the random person tuning in and following it. It’s a catch 22. I never understand that. I don’t like labeling anyone as crazy. I think most great great artists are eccentrics. Marvin Gaye, Prince, MJ, all very eccentric and the list goes on. How the hell would those greats survive today’s music consumption and the weekly rallying cries. It’s interesting that for being a progressive society, it’s the same talking points that led critics to pan “Here, My Dear” by Marvin Gaye as a narcissistic project. Lol.
