Maybe if there’s a link? That would be f***inguseful information to know. Even just “no”, but nooooo not with your f***in attitude
I think we know quite a bit about him artistically, and its clear to see where he always circles back to artistically in his roots of gospel, R&B, hip-hop etc. it was definitely clear after UCLA that’s what he’s gravitated back to when sticking back to his roots
whether its having Bound 2 as the cornerstone of Yeezus, or On Sight having the gospel sample spliced in between Daft Punk’s beat, on those albums those moments stick out as distinctly Ye amongst a lot of music that its clear he didn’t have his hands on until bringing it all together
I think people have this vision of Ye that he’s built through all his albums but specifically ones like LR, 808s, MBDTF, Yeezus etc. that they think sums up Ye when its largely a reflection of what someone in the studio played for him and his influences at those specific times, the indication we get from the music that is most personal and lasting to him like TCD/ye/JIK indicates that’s not what he’s about and its about s*** that resonated most with him growing up like the genres mentioned before
it comes down to people disrespecting hip-hop, R&B and gospel for me, when the truest reflection of Kanye we see is someone who is the best at creating and cultivating those sounds, and is great at stealing from other sounds
i mean i agree with a lot of this, but I don't think you can undersell his production role in albums like yeezus, 808s etc.
I wouldn't say kubrick was just stealing other peoples music, cinematography, acting etc. so I wouldn't say kanye is stealing other sounds either. the most important work is the directorial work of arranging everything and building a coherent album
thats why goldstein said kanye was "still the consummate producer during yeezus" or whatever the exact line was. plus he always has his hands-on moments, like all the reggae s*** on yeezus
I think about it sort of like that one drake line. all these people supposedly making him classics yet have no MBDTF/yeezus/etc. level albums of their own
Hey @MrSting F*** YOU
