evacuating was always going to be a s*** show. our presence there was always a farce to acquire and protect minerals, poppy fields and oil pipelines. Private US mercenaries are actually increasing despite the evac because that’s what military and intelligence agencies actually care about. they’d rather let everything fall into hell and make the sitting admin look bad. This exact scenario would’ve happened under Obama and trump and the reason neither of them committed to full evac is because they wanted to avoid this situation where even their own party is coming for their neck

Biden sticking to it rather than caving to every ice chewing psychopath that’s been in his ear about this is sadly one of the bravest things a presidents done on foreign policy in the last 30 years.
