he was popular and critically acclaimed but 808s, mbdtf and yeezus were what made people call him a visionary artist
and drake could never achieve that because he cant take risks that big with his music
I’m old too but nah I feel like right from TCD he was already seen as an “artist” in that sense, but it intensified when the whole orchestration stuff started with LR, people definitely saw that as visionary and artistry
Then Stronger with the artsy video and daft punk sample, maybe the opinion got stronger and stronger over time but nah he was always seen as more than just a rapper, a lot of people saw it already and 808s didn’t help at all, no one liked or bought it at the time
