Yeah, SPOILERS FOR TWIN PEAKS SEASON 3 but it's the part where the woodsmen emerge from the gas station and the footage and audio cut in and out so it feels like they're "forcing" their way into our world I've never seen anything like that, it's like Lynch just instinctively figured out a way to depict something incredibly complex like that, he also hand-edited a good part of that episode himself, maybe the greatest episode of anything ever IMO

he also did all the sound effect and sound editing work. Yeah that episode and the fact it f***ing exists and got made and was on tv is a blessing

It dips A LOT in Season 2. Didn’t Lynch stop working on the show?
Yes, however I think the dip in quality has at this point been blown way out of proportion. I pinpoint episodes 20 thru 22 as being the only truly bad episodes, and almost every episode has something to recommend or that enhances the lore. And as someone else said, now that The Return exists, it makes the whole thing a lot more palatable.
And as Twin Peaks sort of bookends an era of growth in TV and therefore tells the story of TV from 1990 to 2017, I like to look at that dip in season 2 as a piece of history. It's interesting from a production standpoint, at the very least.
