Well they started with IV because Lucas' vision was in a sort of post-war galaxy - the whole movie contains references to past events that are simply mentioned with no description but applied context. It's so you watch the movie from the jump trying to figure out what could have happened in episodes I-III. Also I f***ing hate Star Wars and now hate myself for writing that much about it.
I'll tell you what I also watched the first Indiana Jones recently for the first time and that s*** was some hot TRASH I can see why George Lucas no longer has a career!

I wish there were more cinemas that showed older movies you know I don't want to see Marvel 37 but I'd love to see an old classic I haven't seen yet on the big screen or drive in cinemas those are a vibe

Lucas had always intended the first film to have a number attached to it (initially 3) so as to give the impression that you were walking into the middle of a film serial. The studio wouldn’t let him, but relented once Star Wars became a hit. And all films aside from the first were released with numbers"
You're right, I was just given the intro to star wars answer that the prequels would become 1 thru 3 that he made after the originals regardless of the fact that was his plan or not.
