yes, donda in july 2020 was unfinished af. then he worked on it after he went radio silent. he was bout to drop it during elections but didn't, then he changed the album yet again for a december-january drop which consequence hinted towards on his IG but Kanye didn't drop it then too for some reason. Album was finished twice last year and had very different songs, from what we know songs like praise god, 24 , kmsa, lord i need you have been safe all this time and many other tracks were there we don't even know of. In 2021, he worked on the album again and it's basically an entirely different album barring few songs than the one from last year.
Album was finished last year twice, he just didn't want to drop it maybe cause he wasn't satisfied or due to various events like divorce, elections that happened.

You're correct that he had an album ready last year.

Oh, thank you, damn, why Ye releases are so frustrating.
Sometimes I feel that the time that he takes to rework an album is almost pointless because we ultimately lose an album from 2019-2020 era Kanye, and get late 2020-2021 era Kanye instead.
Like dude progresses in his beliefs, tastes, etc, faster then he can drop an album which will reflect them.
