These things are so subjective so I totally see your point about it being kinda "banal" even if I feel differently
At the same time, to me, the power of the song lies in that approach to the lyrics. When the song isn't tied down to any particular scene/moment, you really feel the weight of someone regretting and reflecting on an entire lifetime
Like "let me know ... do I still have time to grow?" isn't about some random insecurity, it's about a person's entire life as a whole stagnating. Existential pain vs minor hang-ups
That's how I see it at least
Good point but I'm not sure if that strictly boils down to the songwriting. I think Kanye's voice and the instrumental do a fantastic job in carrying the emotional weight.
i dont think it's garbage, but it just feels like it only loosely connects to the rest of the song
i feel that way bout a handful of features so far
some stay well within the themes of the songs, but just a couple of features feel a lil more generic
Which features do you feel are generic?

Grad my least liked Ye album. And its still good don’t get me wrong. The lyrical aspect is there ofcourse but its not as imaginative and endlessly inspiring as his more artistic albums

Yeah honestly this album would be better if you removed all rapping features due to them not even having anything to do with fhe soure material or having little value added besides making people go OHHH ITS JAY! Or Ohhh its pop smoke!

Yeah I just think the lyrics complement his voice/the instrumental well in terms of the emotional tone he's going for
100% agree with you though the other pieces of this album were crucial. bro doesnt get enough credit for how good he sounded singing these ballads right after making graduation
Everytime I come itt
It's still people sad and complaining
