Tkkensee this is my big hang-up, I feel like a lot of people are going crazy over the features and stuff like that
but some of it feels almost gimmicky or over-produced
like remember when ross came in off that crazy mike dean solo and spit one of his best verses ever? that felt like a feature that was really laboured over and fit the emotions of the track
now I listen to jay elec randomly popping up on jesus lord, and as cool as it is i dont really get why hes there or what hes adding
this is some bullshit btw. inventing some fake reasons to be disappointed in an album.

I feel like before features were the continuation of Kanye, but on Donda some songs like Junya sound like the opposite, like it's Kanye on Playboi Carti's track because of the beat.

Here's how I interpret the features in general: Kanye is simultaneously healing and grieving. Not only over the loss of his mother, but the loss of his wife, and in some sense, his family. Thus, he's reaching out to old friends who love and support him, and patching up old rifts and celebrating those friends as part of that healing process. The features represent the extended family that are still in his orbit, but he may have been previously out of touch with. Jay Elec included.
