This. Wayne has more direct biters and clones who emulate his voice, rapping style, and look. Even Bino and Kendrick used to directly bite Wayne in their earlier projects.

Kanye has more influence on the soundscape though especially with 808's, Yeezus, and Graduation. So many rap albums including some released this year bit the production from that sound.

One could argue that Kanye helped birthed the Blog Era of hip hop too especially after his symbolic defeat of "gangsta rap" albeit I always felt that narrative was a bit exaggerated.

Edit: Wayne even influenced Eminem to use more punchlines in his rapping especially around the Recovery era.

they never wanna give Wayne his credit on here lmao, s*** never gets old

2pac was a real man. Kanye is a Hollywood b****.

Kanye definitely helped to commercialize and popularize the genre. Some would argue water down as a result

I don’t see it. Wayne has more impact on the modern rap scene.

Drake and Travis are two of his most successful sons, but they also owe a large chunk of their influence to Wayne/Budden/R&B artists and kid cudi respectively

Wayne definitely had a big influence it's true

People are programmed to have certain opinions they don’t even make an opinion based off of their own judgement

    But yeah obviously Ye

Exactly, this site has programmed you to say Kanye

2pac. I think a lot of people will say Kanye just because of recency bias and the fact that the level to which 2pac influenced hip hop is so great that it's foundational and taken for granted. What with the thug and gangsta image yet with the dichotomy of also being able to do softer more introspective songs. That's the template most popular hip hop artists have followed nowadays. Considering that he did that in such a short amount of time being famous, hes had a disproportionate influence.

Kanye has definitely had a huge amount of influence, probably in the top 3 impact wise, but I think his recent behaviour will tarnish his image and push the next generation of artists away from him in terms of being influenced by him

Bro when Kanye dies, this won't even be a discussion

Wym? As in he'll be regarded as more influential? I think it's a bit dismissive to imply that death makes the influence what it is

I think you aren't seeing things in an unbiased way because Tupac is dead and Kanye is still with us and is very controversial right now. Once Kanye passes away, this won't even be a question looking back at his legacy

Aftermath already did that by the time Ye dropped College Dropout

Kanye for sure and it’s not even close.

There’s more people listening to music today than there was in the 90’s because streaming makes it easier.

There’s also more people today than in the 90s because well, you know population has increased we all know this.

Kanye has a larger discography and also has explored more deeply into different genres/fusions. Not that Tupac didn’t do this of course it’s just Kanye had more time to do it since he’s still alive.

Let's be real, If Pac was still alive. He would've went out like Ice Cube where more folks know him for his movie roles than his rapping

Once Kanye passes away his legacy will be looked at as a whole package and not just his pre 2013 output. Usually with more emphasis put on his more recent antics. I disagree but we will see

Nope. When someone dies, people focus on what they contributed to the world. Once people focus on that, they'll realize no one is touching Kanye when it comes to impact

I never said Pac was more influential than Ye, I said Pac should be respected. Him being brought up shouldnt be treated as ridiculous

And yes obviously Ice Cube should be respected, he inspired many greats including Pac and Kanye

Damn near every major street rapper lists 50 Cent as a huge influence.

He influences more rappers today than Ye does.

This music video is more influential to todays music videos than any video Ye has ever done

Pac has literally influenced like all the biggest rappers ever starting with Biggie I’m crying laughing

And you acting like 50 Cent, the biggest that has ever existed besides literally Eminem, being more influential than Ye is shocking which is hilarious

Do you have any argument that is worthwhile besides you acting like a shocked Pikachu face?

Not really Pac was a big influence on a lot of people which is why it’s such a debate

Pac was a big influence on Eminem, 50 Cent, Kanye West himself, Lil Wayne, Kendrick Lamar, even Jay Z and Biggie and they had beef and many others. I think his influence can go toe to toe with anybody

But Kanye is up there too which is why I’m not saying Pac is bigger, people need to be more open minded to other peoples perspectives.

  • Oct 16, 2023

2Pac had like a 5 year career in music and have murals of him painted all over the world. No one is painting a mural of Kanye anywhere in the world, except maybe Chicago.

Pac has always been bigger than Ye especially on a global scale
