just listened to donda again and I feel you man... donda had so many of these moments
Bro it really did, didn’t it? that’s why it’s in my top 4 Kanye albums, I still think it’s his best since MBDTF. The amount of raw emotion we got on DONDA is just unreal.
what's crazy is how clearly he laid out the reasons for his later mental breakdown on jesus lord and come to life, it's insane that we have a project that's literally documenting the calm before the storm
ABSOLUTELY, 10000%. It feels like religion is the only thing holding him together on this album. Man you are making me wanna run it back again today, I’m getting chills just reading your reply
you are soooo pretty right, truly the “calm before the storm” & laid all his cards down on DONDA for all to see. That’s the beautiful thing about Kanye’s music, he is never afraid to show his vulnerability. It’s so beautiful.
I can tell that people who trash donda aren't real or long term fans, because the album is incredibly intimate, anyone who dismisses it as just a "bloated" late career project is clearly just skimming through
Yeah I’m not big on downing people’s opinions on things, but I completely understand your sentiment. I really do not understand how it’s considered “bloated,” every track hits at just the right time, the only case you can really make is Tell The Vision, but even I see that as a song where Kanye does reflection to thank God to have made it this far with his opinions & his music, without being brutally murdered. Thus why the next song says “Lord I Need You To Wrap Your Arms around me” on the intro.
I feel like it’s a cop out for someone to even say “oh you’re not a long term fan” by placing Donda so high on your top list. It’s like, nah, the emotion & rawness is all laid out, right there. The theme of the religion & the amount of organs is all there for us to take in & grasp. It’s as weird & crazy as any other Kanye album. Man, I really do love that album so much. To read these same sentiments echoed in a long-term/ real fan such as yourself is extremely gratifying.
eyy man, happy new year first of all
sorry for the late reply, I've been super busy
you're real af for putting donda that high, I usually see it ranked pretty low on most people's lists, so it's always refreshing to see someone consider it among his best. I've been big on the album since its release but at first I wasn't quite sure where it fit within his discography, it's so hard to rank because it's so different from the rest of his discog but over time it grew into one of my absolute favs
I thought the replay value of pablo was insane back then but donda eclipsed that for me in no time
I played the hell out of this record. I def found myself searching for new music less than usual in recent years and honestly one big reason was that I'd often just end up putting donda on again lmao, the album spoke to me on a personal level like almost no other project has in the past few years, it runs circles around most rap projects from the 2020s, s*** is incredibly dark yet at the same time extremely ethereal, it really reflects where I've been mentally over the past few years
Wait I’m so confused why is the post your music section merged with kanye?
they shadowbanned the ye section
Kanye West, who now goes simply by “Ye,” is issuing a new apology for everything, according to an ad that the disgraced artist took out in The Wall Street Journal, which ran in Monday’s print edition as the backpage to section A. In Ye’s apology, addressed to “Those I Hurt,” the superstar attempts to explain his erratic and alarming behavior in recent years, including public outbursts that have led critics and fans alike to accuse the once prolific and celebrated artist of rampant antisemitism.
