in recent uk elections tho we've seen third parties get more campaign money than our second party, sometimes double what the second party got from rich folks, which was probably to help block the second party because those donors knew those third parties could never win but could split votes.
like you say, elon could be chasing the same concept here. but surely the more natural move would be go hard for the Green Party to try to tempt bernie/left voters in the dem base by putting momentum behind them.
