That s*** was still WILD af

The difference where the whole plotline was ridiculing this character because of his blackface.
nah i love reading this. western tankies write tales about Eastern Europe to keep their larping gimmick
have you ever been to Belarus, goblin?
"Tankie" is a meaningless word in the year of our lord and savior 2023 lol
Guaranteed employment, free healthcare and public college, and a strongly regulated private sector without the use of imperialist plunder to finance it are all good things. Nobody is saying Belarus is an ideal situation but the numbers add up to the situation there being a lot better in material terms than in many other Eastern European states. You can't define how an entire system works based on you or your friends/families personal experiences just like you can't define a system based on raw data alone. The answer resides somewhere in between the two where a human element and nuance for the variety of lived experiences within a society can be accommodated within the larger statistical framework.
you’re a reasonable guy so i don’t have smoke for you here- but this isn’t true and you are wrong
Which aspect is wrong?
In more immediate terms: Cost of living is high in Belarus and political corruption is obvious, rampant, and bad, but this could be said about literally any capitalist country that hasn't built some sort of sham social democracy to finance the welfare state on the backs of third world slave labor. In Belarus however, unlike in western countries, they don't build their welfare systems off the backs of imperial labor, but through stronger regulations on their capitalist economy.
There is no viable capitalist alternative to the economic system Belarus has in place that does not leave the third world in complete disrepair to let Europeans have cushiony workplace benefits and social safety nets while letting private wealth grow unabated in virtually any industrial sector. This in no way means Belarus' path is the one, true, best path that should be emulated, but that there is a qualitative and objectively better difference between social welfare in Belarus than in imperialist countries and their peripheries/compradors.
The alternative of a liberal democracy based on full-scale capitalist economics with a Keynesian welfare state that does not finance itself through imperialist plunder does not and has not existed at any point in human history, nor could it due to basic principles of private wealth acquisition and market dynamics of capitalism. These "dream world" societies people like to drum up in their heads do not and largely cannot exist, and never have.
Which aspect is wrong?
he is a dictator because he uses state apparatus to rig elections and control opposition who roll over to him

Okay fair. From my perspective, it's hard to parse through rhetoric of "dictators" and "tyrants" because western media throw that term at literally anyone. The right-wing media even call Joe Biden a communist/autocrat lmao. It's become a largely meaningless catchword in western political discourse so I get confused a lot trying to disseminate these definitions from each other.
What is your's, or anyone else's who is from the region's, perspective on the efficacy of the Russian parliament then? My main hesitance to view Putin as a dictator, while still obviously being a right-wing nationalist and fascist, is that there is at least an existent level of plurality in the Russian parliament, even if the executive branch of the government is basically uncontested. Am I misguided in that view?
I just found out blackface is racist lol
u learn something new everyday
what in the world where yall niggas be from 😭

there is plurality , but if any of the mainstream russian opposition actually threatened putin they would be neutralised extremely quickly
take the communists. yes they nearly won in 94, and yes they were blocked from power however even then they ran on a fairly revanchist and expansionist philosophy that dabbled in russian nationalism. they roll over for putin now because they are controlled opposition and many of them agree with him
Does anyone else remember when Complex was doing a Yeezy giveaway, and they gave the shoes to a woman in Poland doing Blackface?
idk if you know anything about eastern europe lol
We played GTA IV we pretty caught up

Yeah the communist party in Russia has certainly fallen from grace, even without Putin's pressure and not accounting for the obvious disaster of 1991. It's my understanding that there is a strong current within the party to push for the criminalization, or further criminalization, of homosexuality. Highkey a long-term impact of Stalin's leadership both in terms of the socially reactionary nature of the party as well as more of a focus on bureaucratic stability than representing real working class power/interests.
