When you surrounded by dudes like Jay Z, CyHi, Common, MosDef, it makes sense that you'll try harder to be on the same level, but when the guys around you are these young rappers who provide the cool "vibe" instead of substance of course quality'll drop down.
Also in MBDTF times I imagine Kanye being in the studio with his writers all the time, instead of coming to them to pick up the material on the weekends.
