I’m not even sure why we answer these people anymore lol. Drake is the best selling rap artist of all time, and will continue to be so. He’s the biggest 10 years ago, and he’s the biggest now. Drake having fun now, none of these songs have commercial appeal and he’s leaking them himself which hurts the numbers immensely lol. Being a hater is f***ing miserable, and I can’t to hear the excuses when his next album outsells everyone AGAIN 😭😭😭
Bruh what are you on? You're trying to tell me 20/22 of those tracks were extremely trendy in 2017? lol in 2017 the US only cared about trap, not island s*** like Blem or Passionfruit
There's like 3 rap songs on the whole project, the rest is either UK inspired or island inspired s*** that wasn't trendy at all
Views was exactly the same, no one wanted Views to be an R&B album, everyone wanted another rap album, R&B was dead as a genre in the US at that point
They will spin any narrative to try and poke holes in your argument, not worth the effort.
It's always a funny argument when they try to say he's stacking albums for streaming when So Far Gone and Take Care both existed well before then lol
my point is that, while he’s always done a mix of Rap/R&B songs, the albums are no longer cohesive with a clear and direct vision, aside from HNvm and Her Loss
all i’m saying is i’m not a fan of when artists try to put a song for everyone on their albums rather than making albums for one specific part of their audience, and if that is what they do, then the bare minimum is making sure there’s at least some sonic theme throughout the album that makes it feel like a cohesive body of work rather than just a compilation of really good songs that don’t actually have anything in common
This is all subjective. Most Drake fans don't care this deeply. They love that he gives them projects with songs they come away from loving and that's enough. It ain't gotta be deeper than that.
and the thing is, i actually really like long albums. i honestly prefer them to short albums, because there’s more music to enjoy. they just have to be done right.
an album should transport you to a certain place mentally. if the entire album is able to transport you to that same place, and maybe even move you around from there as well, without interruption, then it’s a success. the problem with longer albums comes when certain songs that don’t belong bring you to a completely different place that doesn’t match up with the rest of the album.
like with BRAT, i get transported to this futuristic techno kinda party where everyone’s bumpin that. at certain points, there are very real conversations with the people at the party, but we’re still at the party, and the album ends reminding the listener that we’re still at that party.
with CLB & FatD, those albums take you all over the place. there’s no clear direction to be found. Drake’s earlier albums took you to a specific place, and it was always very clear where you were. sonic masterpieces. i think Views was his first time missing that mark, because while most of the album took you to a certain place, certain songs & stretches of the album take you completely out of that zone & ruin the experience.
end of rant

yea that’s my whole point lol
i guess it’s just about how you view albums — do they need to feel like cohesive bodies of work or is it okay to just put a bunch of good songs together & call it a day?
oh look 2015 drake fans claiming the "world" wanted a rap album from drake for Views meanwhile he gave us the exact same template as Take Care and NWTS and fans feasted
2015 fans called views trash
real fans called views amazing
and now summer of 2016 is looked back on as the GOAT summer
feel no ways > any drake rap song
Would be a personal classic if he dropped a 8 track album of that kind of song
I get why he doesnt though. Too many demographics to appeal to. I hope he knows the ‘real’ rap heads will survive if he doesnt get into his gangsta cosplay raps over conductor beats
I’m sure someone posted this already but
He follows him again now
You sound stupid. Drake has always made catchy bops. When he wasn't scoring #1s and top 10 hits like candy, he wasn't fishing for hits but the moment he started getting them, it means he started fishing for them? Do you see how dumb you sound?
Drake is the only major mainstream artist that's never done bundles, used radio deals, pushed numerous remixes and utilised other industry tactics to boost his position on the charts. He quite literally just drops his music and keeps it moving, but according to you, that, along with him making the type of music he has ALWAYS made, means he's fishing for hits.
I keep forgetting that some of you on this site are really just bumbling buffoons who aren't worthy of any sort of correspondence.
These people don’t know what narrative they want to believe
The nigga has told us hundreds of times both on wax and in interviews that numbers are his main motivation, yet his stans think he doesn’t care about them because he doesn’t do bundles
He never said this lmao

He doesn’t care to CHASE them. He loves that it naturally happens. Someone who is OBSESSED with maximizing their numbers to look good every drop is Travis Scott. That dude has bundled every release and hypnotized people into thinking he’s a 300k plus first week artist. His latest release didn’t even chart on the hot 100 😭. DUDE IS BUNDLING A RERELEASE MIXTAPE. Drake just don’t care how he drops, he knows he’s the biggest out
Bundling a rerelease mixtape is nasty work
This is a wrong take because there are a whole lot of CLB truthers out there and the same is already happening for FATD. You can't really say this about Drake because since Drake blew up, he's always catered to more than one fanbase and he's made classics doing that.
They act like take care, the album they claim is his best, isn’t genre blending like all his other albums 😭😭
He never said this lmao
1. Your name is aubreysattorney, anything you say about Drake is literally irrelevant
2. Yes he did

Is it a crime for an artist to sell physical copies?
This is a stupid point. So Far Gone has 18 songs, 2 removed from 20 songs. Take Care had 20 songs. He has always made long projects. Acting like it's something he started doing to juice streaming numbers is dumb.
Take care has 18 songs
