I'll give them hiring Snyder for MoS and letting him do his own vision of the character. It didn't pan out as well as everyone hoped but they took a noble chance. Fair enough.

But the fact that they still gave him near carte blanche on BvS after MoS underwhelmed critically and commercially? When he handed WB an R-rated, polarizing 3-hour cut of the first team up of their most iconic characters -- they thought let's sign this guy on again?! To not even wait for public feedback on BvS for the cameras roll on what was originally going to be a two-parter JL movie? WB spent a lot of money before Snyder even left because they constantly had to rewrite the movie from the beginning of shooting.

S*** hits the fan when BvS comes out. It's such a disaster that it causes a major leadership shakeup at WB, and JL's production is already underway. New WB leadership call Snyder out on his bullshit and discreetly fire him under the guise of him leaving due to his family's personal tragedy, but the new execs are also stupid and numbingly risk averse that they frankenstein Suicide Squad and JL with the hopes that they can make sanitized, sterile superhero movies fitting to Marvel's MO. SS's marketing saves the movie but too much goodwill is lost for JL that it is DOA and actually loses money for all the money and effort to reshoot the movie. It likely would've been a smarter financial decision in hindsight to just keep Snyder on oooooooooh lord im crying now
