Yeah the immutability of it and the viewer knowing that all it takes for Superman to turn evil is the death of lois . When the whole thing could have been better accomplished by Lex blowing up the trial and :

1. dying in the explosion with lois and framing superman for it since the media would never think Lex would kill himself or fake his death

2. Needed Lois to not be a reoccuring damsel in distress. If an African warlord had killed lois at beginning of the movie would Superman kill every single african?

3. Martha and Lois being alive and superman being the one who died was a change of pace yes but him quitting being superman after seeing the increased deaths or something other than the injustice ass s*** he was setting up would be more interesting. Thinking people will watch 2-3 hours of JL2 with evil superman vs flash, cyborg, batman, the joker

Yeah there are many ways to show that Superman is evil then having him destroy the truck of a misogynist, snap zods neck and momentarily scream or stare off in the distance. Its such a basic view of humanity. Seeing Superrman grieve for lois and question if life is worth it at all without the ones we love would have been a fascinating concept to explore.
