my head canon is that he didnt start killing until post man of steel thats when he snapped the furthest n he killed anybody that got in the way of his goal to kill supes but he redeemed after superman dies
he didnt kill joker because he hadnt fully snapped even when he killed d*** grayson he was only broken enough to punch his teeth out

Especially knowing Superman turns evil either way , never gets a trial and Batman barely deals with police oversight
