i dont read a ton of comics but i had to give up on keeping up with dc because i never had a clue what was going on tbh. all the series are so deep in their mythologies it seems super convoluted and impenetrable at this point. the old self contained stories are goat of course.

There are many jump in points now like new 52 and rebirth DC has addressed that concern time and time again

The comics are nearing 100 years old. They have thousands of different writers and contonuities and they don't have much exposure or even a central theme that's obvious amongst the many series that come out yearly.

Only the very hardcore fans keep up with the contonuities of the comics. For everybody else, there's a general continuity of characters that are usually depicted in TV shows, movies, or video games that they can latch onto.

Like Darkseid. Niggas know he's one of the strongest DC villains. They don't give a f*** if he's a old or new god, if he knows Zeus or Steppenwolf, or any of that s***. They just know it takes the whole Justice League to beat his ass, and he shoots Omega Beams. Everything outside of that is filler information that can be changed or ignored and you still get the jist of the character.

This character might be 25 years old in some individual series over the 70 or 80 years of his existence, but whenever you see Batman, he's a nigga dressed like a bat, with a utility belt, who fights the Joker, and is obviously a middle-aged man. The details of everything else can be changed or ignored--which is has been, many hundreds if not thousands of times.

I'll be honest, I think for me the biggest thing is that they made Superman just seem so powerful that it doesn't seem like anyone shown at any point in the movie had any chance to even fight this dude.
