Disney literally is the worst partner for theaters

They wanted 60% of the box office revenue for Last Jedi when normal terms are 50%

That 10% to a theater is a lot

Only reason theaters put up with it is because the amount of money their films (Marvel in particular) brings in

    this was a bar

That's why they said f*** it ok then we'll just put our s*** on Disney+

yeah the one thing you can give WB is that atleast from time to time they do fund great artistic visions like a mad max fury road or blade runner 2049 or even snyders JL

even WW1984 while being a failure, atleast the producers let Patty write and direct the film she wanted and didn't limit her.

WB still scummy for the greed with theaters and f***ing over a number of other artistic visions they fund, but atleast they ain't Disney.

they've only recently started being trash tbh I blame AT&T buying them and kevin tsujihara wanting to focus on franchise films (even tho there would be no BvS or JL without him)

yeah at this point they're scummy but atleast we still do get them taking chances on their artists to do what they want from time to time (as seen with Nolans movies or even upcoming movies like Wan's Malignant or Denis's Dune)

I figure we will get to a point though where even movies like this become rare with them.

I never noticed it before but the cgi has that squash and stretch movement of 2d animation (they probably went with that because it isn’t mocap)

And it gives a more fluid visual appeal. Video games kind of use something like that. They call them "smear frames" in animation. Overwatch uses them a lot for their cinematics

Denis' Dune gotta be a financial success tbh cuz as good as BR2049 was I don't remember it being a hit at the box office. I feel like if Dune underperforms they're gonna start messing with his s*** too

    BR2049 flopped actually

So yeah Dune is a huge gamble honestly, especially because the theater release was a huge selling point for it and were still not sure how theaters can rebound yet.

Honestly I was gonna watch like 2 hours of this just cuz I was mad tired today. Ended up watching up to part 5 and i legit thought like an hour passed. But it’s super late so ima watch the rest tmrw.

But this is incredible so far. It genuinely feels like the purest vision of a superhero film I’ve ever seen. It plot wise may as well be an avengers movie but you can so easily tell that Snyder actually gives a s*** about images and it’s so obvious to tell that this is a movie that feels like it was made by somebody and not a committee

There’s so much worldbuilding and scale to this, how we go from the wintery mountains to foreign lands both in the past and present, to a secret tomb underground, all the way to the underwater relics. While 2017s justice league and even avengers movies jump around quite a bit as well, the importance of images and pacing and detail really go a long way to making the world building feel so vibrant, creative and epic where it feels like an after thought in those movies.

My favorite sequence so far is the Flash sequence with the truck crash. How Snyder films his movement in that sequence coupled with a beautiful needle drop movement is really unlike anything I’ve seen but I love how the movement feels reminiscent of how Eisenstein filmed and saw movement in his films. Snyder’s filming of that movement is honestly some of his best camera movement I’ve seen

but realistically she is too high profile now and an unnecessary character unlike han who is a fan favorite in the franchise

BR2049 flopping is a blessing tho, the producers were ready to turn it into a bloated franchise lol.

But it flopping also might deter them from trying more stuff like it

Although with Dune existing, I guess that isn’t fully true.

I think Dune exists because Denis has built up a lot of good will on some Nolan s***.
