No one owned the rights to thier masters on a artist deal in the 2000's on a major. Not 50 and not even Eminem - back then through subsidiary label deal (e.g shady and aftermath) you got % the artists under you. 50 had rights to g-unit artists through his subsidary artist deal then. When his artist deal came to re-up he could then leverage getting his masters back for old music and new ones, depending on his lawyers negotiation skills and his leverage. Remeber lots of artists preffered the cash up front and didn't appreciate the longer term value of masters.

50 had a lot of leverage over interscope so sure he cut something for himself he liked, whatever that was
